It's had great reviews in the US as well.

For those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, the official Disney web site is here. It's the adaption of a wonderous Diana Wynne Jones novel and wants to be seen by as many people as possible. There are some screen shots here

Could have been worse.

I could have started talking about relative tensile strengths and flexibility, the crappy pacing or the fact that the heroine was an 18 yaer old bottle blonde with too much lip gloss. Or product placement, the lack of a plausible sense of crowd reactions, and the dodgy super-hero-physics^(TM).

But I didn't. :P

Well, one has a proven cast, great one liners and spaceships.

The other had an obscure trailer in japanese with annoying music.

Then one was made by a skilled TV director, but the writer of Alien Ressurection

And the other is from the man who did Spirited Away a bana-fide god in Japan.

But then one has big dam heroes

And the other has a little old lady.

Yeah, I think they kinda match up. One has pure geek cred, the other has more classical credentials. Luckily we can watch both.

*narrows eyes thoughtfully* previews? I suggest waiting a month or so, then worrying... Either way, it's a good thing to do in the last week of September. Though Jez may not be impressed at the idea of sitting down anywhere about three hours after being Scarred For Life... :) But hey. He can stay home. :P
