...is due to be released in the UK on September 30th.

So long! So very long to wait!

It's had great reviews in the US as well.

For those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, the official Disney web site is here. It's the adaption of a wonderous Diana Wynne Jones novel and wants to be seen by as many people as possible. There are some screen shots here

Want it! Want it now!

Well, one has a proven cast, great one liners and spaceships.

The other had an obscure trailer in japanese with annoying music.

Then one was made by a skilled TV director, but the writer of Alien Ressurection

And the other is from the man who did Spirited Away a bana-fide god in Japan.

But then one has big dam heroes

And the other has a little old lady.

Yeah, I think they kinda match up. One has pure geek cred, the other has more classical credentials. Luckily we can watch both.

I am currently in a very odd place with regards Firefly, which I why I think I'm poking at it. On one hand, I did rather like the series. On the other, I don't think I understand why everyone loves it SO much and I think I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the mass adoration for it.

I think I'll just put it down as one of those odd things that makes my friends happy and is therefore a Good Thing (tm). Up there with Sin City (which I totally didn't get) and crushed velvet.

It just clicked with me. It had a premise that I liked, characters that resonated... hell I'd play almost any one of those characters in a game... the acting was up to snuff, the storylines were well varied. It had everything I like in a series, it was like someone said "I want to make a TV series for Ben, but I'm not allowed to set it in the Star Wars universe."

Out of interest, which characters wouldn't you play?

Kaylee, I can't remain chirpy for that long.

Wash, much the same reason, I could probably hold the character for a session, but not much longer.

Inara would be a stretch to play, but I think the secrets behind the facade would work for me.

I have a sudden and desperate need to play Wraith. I need an Ally. or an enemy, oen of the two, I don't care - just as long as she's a courtesan wilfully struggling against her love for the Wrong Man.

You'd NPC that for us, wouldn't you, Ben? ;)
