I just found out that a girl I knew at university - Ellie Maxwell - died last year. I didn't know her very well, but I was involved with Firefly, for a couple of years. I'm not deeply upset, but it's sad to hear that she died so young. She was a really remarkable person.

  • [profile] pierot has survived leaving London. This was traumatic for him, and did feature him whimpering pathetically that the cannibals were going to eat him, and that the bad weather was a punishment from the Lady of London. He should never have left.

He also attempted to persuade me that my having missing my turn off for the M25, and having to spend 5 minutes driving down the M11 back towards London meant that we were meant to be going home now.

I was brutal and pressed on. Even when he decided to try and blend in with the cannibals and start eating my shoulder.

  • Apart from that, our drive wasn't too bad. It took about nine hours driving time in the end (thanks to tractors) with added time for rest stops which seemed like a good idea at the time. In general, I think taking the A1(M) was the right decision as the drive was fairly good for traffic and very nice and simple.

  • The Auld Hoose on Monday was fab. I saw people I haven't seen in years, including Alex Gibson which was a total surprise. I had a glorious burger of unhealthy, and then many many silly conversations. It was also just a nice pub to hang out - scruffy rock pubs for the win!

  • Tuesday featured [profile] ksirafai and I sneaking out for breakfast whilst Jeremiah was still asleep. And lo! I had tattie scone and haggis for breakfast. I could have wept with joy! I really do miss living in Scotland quite a lot, you know.

  • The Wyrd Shop was closed! Curse them! Shall go back today.

  • Edinburgh Lost was most entertaining. I got to tell the story of Worthy and Rosie's Adventure, and Jack in the Smoke is arranging me another one. How can that go wrong?

  • Today I'm about to head into town again to go back to the Wyrd Shop and look at a few more places. Then I shall be meeting [profile] cristobel for lunch, and then we'll be heading homewards around 2 ish.

  • Edinburgh is a lovely city. I really really should visit it more often.

So, I'm now en route to Edinburgh. For those of you left behind, I'll be back late Wednesday, and will be sprawling comatose on my sofa again on Thursday. I may or may not have e mail access, but I will have my mobile with me. Feel free to call me.

Have fun y'all and I'll see you on the flipside.

And so I'm back from outer space...

Yes, I'm home. I spent an entire weekend (OK, more like 24 hours) in Edinburgh and I survived!

Herein lies my tale...

The journey up )

The wedding )

Sunday morning )

Sunday lunch )

My journey home )

And now I'm home, how do I feel about Edinburgh?

I did put a lot of ghosts to rest. I did remember that I had had a lot of good times there, I do have some wonderful friends there that have known me for a long time and I really do love to pieces. I remembered that it was a beautiful city. I think I realised that I do have a lot of strong emotions associated with that place, and those won't go away. It wasn't as anticlimactic as I had feared it might be, and it was a positive experience.

I think 24 hours was a good amount of time to spend there. I think keeping it all to safe places, to people I feel comfortable with, was also the right way to go.

I also think that I really do need to take [profile] pierot up there at some point. That town is a part of me, is something that I think he needs to see in order to make sense of me, and I think he does need to meet Tina and Corinne who are both wonderful people.

It was a wonderful weekend. Hey, I might even try it again.

*yawns*

It's been a slightly restless week for me this week. I've not been working, and have instead been sorting out bits and pieces relating to college, shuttling jez to hospital and fracture clinics*, and trying to get the forms for my conservation course next year sorted. I'm actually vaguely looking back to being at work (presuming another temp job comes up) relatively soon, although with a combination of me having to drive jez to the fracture clinic on Monday, going to meet kittens on Wednesday, and going to get a tattoo touched up on Friday it looks like I won't be working next week either.

In other news, I am also about to head up to Edinburgh. Well, not as in 'leave today', but I will be in Edinburgh this weekend for [profile] cristobel's wedding. It's an odd feeling. A bit of me is excited at the prospect of seeing Susan married, and hopefully meeting up with Corsie and Tina and other such good people and a bit of me is really rather nervous. I've not set foot in that city for over two years, not since I left in a bit of a state, and it's got some bad memories for me. I'm hoping that I'll lay some ghosts to rest, but I'm being possibly exaggeratedly careful.

Anyway, I'm mostly going up for Susan's wedding, so hopefully I'll see a nice selection of people then, but I'm also meeting Corsie and Tina for Sunday lunch on...well...Sunday. We're meeting up at 1 pm at Vittorias, so if anyone wants to come along then, I'd love to see folks.

And now, onward! I have a wedding present to buy and I am finding it rather tricky. I'm hoping that Greenwich may prove my friend in my shopping endeavours.

Wish me luck!
