...is due to be released in the UK on September 30th.

So long! So very long to wait!

It's had great reviews in the US as well.

For those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, the official Disney web site is here. It's the adaption of a wonderous Diana Wynne Jones novel and wants to be seen by as many people as possible. There are some screen shots here

Want it! Want it now!

Shall we drag anyone else along, or let them instead run away and hide? Though it might be a bit odd for people to be in a cinema with me while I'm not talking. ;P

As long as they understand that this is a NO TALKING film!

I really am looking forward to it having seen some of the pics, and since I heard who was voicing various people. Jean Simmons! She's SO cool.

EVERY film is a no talking film. I didnt drop 6 quid on a movie to hear your opinions of it DURING the show.

Hey, you did fine during Fantastic Four! I had a great time, although the seventh time you repeated the rant about Franklin Richards I got a little bored...

Could have been worse.

I could have started talking about relative tensile strengths and flexibility, the crappy pacing or the fact that the heroine was an 18 yaer old bottle blonde with too much lip gloss. Or product placement, the lack of a plausible sense of crowd reactions, and the dodgy super-hero-physics(TM).

But I didn't. :P

would I be making a mistake to ask what the rant was?

Dr Doom = Dumbest Supervillain Ever. This can be proved thusly:

1) Reed Richards is blatantly a Scott Summers Clone.
2) Sue Storm-Richards is blatantly a Jean Grey Clone (with a bottle of bleach).
Their offspring, therefore, will be Supremely, Cosmically and Incredibly powerful.

Dr Doom, when offered Reed Richards' firstborn child, instead accepted 75% of the gross profits of their explorations.

*facepalm*

The child who will grow up to (if I remember right) become Galactus was ignored.

*sighs* Dumbest Supervillain Ever. The genetic archetypes were _obvious_...

:P

Don't forget

75% of the gross profits of their explorations.

So that's 75% of the Fantastic Four merchandising then.

Yet he still tries to kill them.

Good point.

_And_ he gets sent home in a packing crate.

I'm thinking Doom is fairly obviously not the smartest chippie in the deep-fat fryer. :P

Damn you! You've got me off reading character bios on the marvel website now!

And in case you care Franklin didn't become Galactus but helped in his rebirth from what I can tell.

Ooh, Nate Grey-summers vs Franklin Richards... wonder who would win?

My vote's on Frank Richards purely because Nate's way overconfident. Frank Richards and Cable? Not a contest; Cable shoots before Franklin's realised something's wrong.

Unless Rachel joins in. Which could be embarrassing. Which side would she go on? :P

I read comics over the weekend too. I'm vaguely considering picking a comic series and followign it. I'm not sure what yet though.

And should I make the obvious joke "What? doom has reality warping powers too?"

And should I make the obvious joke "What? doom has reality warping powers too?"

That's the point. He would have had, had he not _failed_ to take up the Offer of the Century and gone for the cheapass merchandising rights, which he then runs out on.

There is no sense. *sighs sadly* One day, there will be a sensible supervillain. Or Mr Sinister, one of the two. :)

In all fairness at the time he thought that sue was his bird so maybe he figured he was already lined up for the super baby? Or that he was in an AU where reed and sue never got together? Its not like the arrogance of "Sue's mine so of course she's never going to have reed's baby" is particualrly misplaced in a super villain.

Anyway, don't diss doom too much. He's going to be much cooler in the next one when he is evil dictator of Latveria! :)

And mister sinister has always looked cool. Never seen him in too much detail though. Though I did see him in the deadpool House of M crossover when he was babysitting a baby cable. Funniest comic I've read in ages as Sinister stands outside the loo talking to deadpool as he takes a piss. And then sinister having a go at him for not washing his hands afterwards.

http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=34822 is a review with spoilers. In summary though Cable and Deadpool issue 17. Not sure when it was first published but relatively recently. Possibly in fact the latest issue in that line.

Reed Richards is WAY cooler than Scott Summers. He has more than one facial expression, and his tone of voice sometimes changes.

Scott Summers, on the other hand, could be replaced by a large and manly chest of drawers (made from the same lump of pine) as long as it occasionally shot out SUPERDEATHRAYBEAMS when needed.

Sue Storm did worry me - I don't understand how a 21 year old with a lot of blonde hair got to be Doom's head of scientific research, or, in fact, anything that required obvious brainpower. She must have been a nymphet Dougie Howser.

They = both dull. *nods sadly* Though I may be persuaded that Scott isn't awful purely because of fanfic. I may have to introduce you. ;P

Dougie Howser = the best. I wanted to be a doctor when I was little solely because of him and the 'Feed the World' song video thing. :) I changed my mind when I realised that while biology was easy, english lit was more interesting. ;P
