He isn't making money in the publishing business. He's been making a fortune at the Old Vic playing the Wicked Uncle. It's true! I recognise a Dave Wade character when I see it. It had the meglamania, the plummy accent and the right style of wicked lines. I was very impressed.

Beyond that, Aladdin was an absolute dream. Or nightmare. I'm not sure which. I think it depends heavily on your opinion of traditional trashy panto. Ian McKellan flounced around in drag with a great deal of gusto, Aladdin and the Princess gazed misty eyed at each other, the Wicked Uncle was wicked, and everyone lived happily ever after. I don't think I'm ever going to be able to get away from the image of Magneto in drag, however, and my dreams last night were haunted with a vision of the Brotherhood of Mutants and what they might be getting up to in their secret lair, come December. How would you cast the Brotherhood? Mystique would obviously make a great principle boy, and I can really see Toad as Hanky or Panky, one of the bumbling acrobat/policemen.

Ideas?

You looked great dancing with Widow Twankey. And Ian McKellan has surprisingly good legs for a man his age.
