Sure - but I get a couple of hundred posts a day on LJ - I can't possibly keep going back and seeing if there was an interesting thread on there some time in the past, and the only other option is to track the whole post, which means it's the same problem again
And threads on LJ don't work well either, not unless I individually track each one which is tedious in the extreme. Sally responded on the thread I started but as it was in response to someone else's comment I wasn't notified.
If you got a couple of hundred posts on G+ wouldn't you have the same problem?
I track threads I'm interested in - but if there's interesting discussion happening all over the post then I either track the whole post, or add it to ReadItLater so I can check in on it later on.
Aaaah. I hate that, because conversations I have no interest in keep popping back up and I can't tell when I've actually caught up on new posts that I haven't seen before, because they aren't in reverse-time-order.
Oh, I just mute them if I really don't want to read them - one button and gone. Whereas just to comment on LJ takes ages of clicking and back and forthing
As I said, I love LJ, but not for quick conversations - it's my safe space for generally long drawn out discussions :-)
Aaah, gotcha, so for short throw-away things that get a few comments?
Yup, I agree that for that kind of thing it can be better.
Edit: My main issue is that if people post short snippets elsehwere then a lot of them tend not to post longer things on LJ, because the longer things are usually shorter posts that got out of control when they were being written :-> (Not universal, but seems pretty common)
Oh no, it can be hundreds of comments quite happily (I can also easily turn off notifications with 1 click!) but not for anything truly important and deeply personal. Buzz showed me it's too easy to @ someone and have them see a post they were not privy to originally
Yeah, I am finding that pretty disappointing too - I wish more people would post the important things on LJ again. I use FB only for event invitations, I hate it for everything else. I use Twitter only for celebrities/ interest, have removed everyone else. LJ still has that "proper posts" thing I miss
Yup - entirely understandable - and I know why a bunch of my friends did similar things. It's just a shame that a few people spoil social networking stuff for the rest of us.
