What would Julie Andrews do?
Apr. 7th, 2005 10:27 amAs some of you know, I'm not in the happiest of moods today.
I'm trying to get through to the doctor, and I've had a rather rough time over the last 24 hours. Blood, guts, gore, and everything falling apart. And that's just my social circle.
However, I have decided to follow the advice of a woman of great wisdom. A nun, no less! A woman with spiritual insight, a profound grasp of the workings of the universe. Oh, and a woman with an accent you could cut diamond on, let alone glass.
Yes. What would Julie Andrews do?
She'd be thinking of her favourite things, and then life wouldn't feel so bad.
Therefore, in the spirit of this, I thought I'd list some of my favourite things, or at least positive things which have cheered me up today. Brown paper packages tied up with string don't cut it. I'm thinking about:
And these are some of my happy and cheerful things today. Give me more. Tell me nice things that have happened to you over the last couple of days or stuff I should be cheerful about. I'm refusing to wallow.

The entire new wardrobe that I've got, with a dozen little goth tops, a button up shirt and a fitted chinese dress. All clothes I used to not be able to wear before my op.
The figure I have which I still get excited about when I look in the mirror.
The friends who let me cackle and plan out volcano related death traps. You know, no one is a problem after they have been doused in molten lava. Except Darth Vader and he was at least vastly improved by the experience (Haydan Christian to James Earl Jones. That's a good make over!)
Noel Coward on Saturday.
Melbourne in July.
Milkshakes with
Sunshine outside, with a cool clear breeze.

Date: 2005-04-07 10:15 am (UTC)Not far from this thing is the Melbourne Concert hall and theatre space, which is alongside the river... the theatre company is very avant garde and there's a 50/50 chance that an actor from Lord of the REings will be in any given play :)
A short tram ride away is St Kilda, which is built around the beach and a wharf, it has a great old fashioned fun park, and beautiful cafes and cake shops along Ackland St. There is alos the Stoke House, possibly my favourite Restaurant in the world, which serves exquisite food with views of the bay and absolutely sterling service, I'd swear all the staff are mind readers.
In the opposite direction there is the Melbourne CBD, which is full of great little nooks and crannies, you can cross the city entirely through the arcades, and stop off at such places as the Hopetoun Tea Rooms which serve great chocolate Cake and their chicken, avocado, crispy bacon and mango mayonaise sandwiches are the stuff of legend (the waitresses are almost all english too, we used to go there to drool over accents), and some nice goth shops, including Morticia's... where at last count you could buy giant mechanical batwings with a twelve foot span (made by my buddy's brother-in-law).
Further along is the amazing china town, with some funky museums and some downright dangerous food. But not as dangerous as Stalactites, where you can get the Southern hemisphere's best souvlaki, 24 hours a day. Heading north from the city you come to Lygon Street which has about two miles of excellent Italian restaurants, which all want your business. There's good gelati here too. Further out this way is the Stonnington Movie House, which shows arthouse and rare films, and is the home of the 24 hour science fiction movie-marathon (make jetlag work for you!)
Also, you are welcome to visit my mum out in the suburbs to rifle through my x-men comics and steal as you wish.

Date: 2005-04-07 10:16 am (UTC)We need to get you a song to sing that has a lot of words like 'FUCK' and 'OFF.'
I'm sure Miss Andrews would approve, given the circumstances. :D

ask Donna what she did this morning....:)
Is this the 6 am wake up call?
Date: 2005-04-07 10:36 am (UTC)But it's GOOD to wake up in the morning. And weren't you GLAD that you got to see a beautiful dawn...
Re: Is this the 6 am wake up call?
Date: 2005-04-07 10:36 am (UTC)Was just a bit of a shock... :)

Date: 2005-04-07 12:02 pm (UTC)At least, that was what I was talking about. I really hope everyone else is going to the same place.

Date: 2005-04-07 12:16 pm (UTC)And my mind isn't warped. Just very very dirty. And this wonderful example of that has entertained me far too much. :)

Date: 2005-04-07 11:51 am (UTC)Reminds me of the time when, in my NQT year, I decided to use powderpaint with glue instead of mixing it with water. It was so funny - the mix got everywhere. One of my class, megan, swept her way up to me through a cloud of multicoloured paint dust, and said 'Miss, it's a rainbow mess!'

Date: 2005-04-07 11:27 am (UTC)Good things...
1) We're over half-way through the BloodSpell animatic and progressing fast.
2) One of my mates is nominated for not one, but three Hugo awards.
3) I'm having more fun than I have in a long while playing - and roleplaying in - World of Warcraft. Join us! Have no life! It's like the Cam, but with prettier pictures and less angst.
4) I seem to be getting invited all over the world - HK in March, now Spain in May and France in June.
5) We're learning brutal nasty dagger-fighting moves in DDS. Which is a laugh.
6) I've figured out how to have a dinner party for under a tenner all in.
