Melbourne via Shanghai

I did it!
Myself and
pierot are now booked to fly out of London Heathrow on June 28th at 21.00. We arrive in Shanghai 15.45 local time, and then have a 28 hour stopover, with accomodation provided by the airline as part of the package as it is an enforced stopover. Our visas get sorted by the airlines as well, so we should be able to wander into Shanghai and have a look around.
We then fly on to Melbourne, arriving July 1st at 7.00. We'll be there for two weeks, arriving home on July 16th.
The flights, including tax, and the hotel in Shanghai cost a total of £600 per person.
I feel wonderful. My future is increasingly becoming a good thing and a thing to look forward to instead of worry about.
In geeky news -
pierot also brought happiness to my life last night by running a random weird rpg in which we all played old or familiar PCs and had them yanked into the same world.
ksirafai played her Malkavian Anti.
wildrogue played her 7th Sea Fate Witch.
vilenspotens played his spelljammer elven paladin and I played Ekaterina Decados - stroppy Decados bint - because she seemed a little less evil than my old Brujah.
It worked alarmingly well but did get me thinking about the extent to which characters...and I guess people...are products of their environment.
Ekaterina was originally a PC, then an NPC, in a couple of Fading Suns games. In her original incarnation she was a very rich, very spoilt noble, related to a lot of very important aristrocratic figures in the Fading Suns world. Take her out of that world - put her in a world where the word 'Decados' means nothing, where she has no resources in terms of status or money, where there are no preconceptions and she changed. Definitely. Quite dramatically. A lot of the more spoilt mannerisms had to fall away. A lot of the snarling at the world had to go, because this wasn't a world which actually was going to respond. There weren't the preconceptions to play up to. It was very strange.
jez says he may run again if he gets everyone together. I'll just sit here writing Ekaterina tatty prose while he talks about it.
