I didn't get even that much in either of my degrees.
I did get a post-modernist proselytiser attempting to persuade me that Gellner had said everything there was to be said about identity, and that writing anything on nationalism was therefore implicitly redundant, but I don't really count that as helping. And she, thank God, was not my supervisor....
Still, the "but I'm not sure that's available to you yet" line that you start getting from tutors at post-grad level can certainly be really, really annoying.
