For various reasons, I've decided to start up a new journal, or rather re-opening an old one. My [profile] surinen LJ was set up a long time ago when I felt the need for somewhere I could write away from my main [profile] winterthing livejournal, but never quite got off the ground. It's got some memories there, which I've set to private and haven't deleted, but it's never really gotten much use.

Now, as a part of my conservator training, I need to keep a journal. This journal is primarily meant to be part of my training in museology. The description of what it is meant to be is as follow:

Your journal at this stage should include reflection on how you understand the subject of conservation and its role in society. The quiestionnaires you have completed might be your starting point (NB - these quesionnaires are currently with my museology lecturer, but she is meant to give them back to me at some point) Include comments on texts you have read and questinos that you will be seeking answers to. You could perhaps include some discussion of museums, exhibitions, historic sites etc that you have visited earlier in the summer or since the course began. You might like to begin to comment on the sort of material you are looking for for form the focus for your presentation.

At this stage the journal should also include reflection commentaries on the visits and seminar sessions. How are they contributing to your understanding and knowledge? What issues are being raised that particularly interest you? Continue to comment on your search for material for the presentations and to build an annotated bibliography of texts. Remember to look out for press and other media coverage of relevant issues and keep a commentary.

I've been told I should keep this journal in whatever form I feel most comfortable with. Now, I lose bits of paper. All the time. I lose notebooks as well, so I have decided I want to keep a virtual copy of everything. Hence the use of LJ. I know how it works. I know how to format it. I can scan in pictures and other bits, and get them up here. I shall keep a notebook as well, but I want to type up my notes at the end of the day, and keep them here.

Then, once per term, when this journal is assessed, I can print it out and hand it over to my supervisor.

Now, I am sure that some people won't actually be interested in museology, or conservation, or museums, or art galleries, of my postgraduate professional development. If that's the case, then I will bear no ill will to any of you who don't want to read this other journal. Anyone who does friend me, however, will be friended back, and will get access to any limited viewing posts I might make. There won't be too much that is personal there, but there will be some things which may be inappopriate for public viewing for reasons of confidentiality/professionalism.

No one needs to comment. So, anyone interested in museums and conservation?
