It's slightly frustrating. After all my gloom and doom at the beginning of the week I was beginning to feel better. Cutting out all social engagements and just getting things done was really helping. Taking some time to make sure I do have some long baths and eat properly, instead of yelling "I'm meant to be somewhere" was really helping. I had a rather chirpy post half written at work yesterday, planning out my weekend and feeling relatively positive.

Then [profile] pierot phoned me to tell me that my mini was in a hedge and he had a dislocated shoulder.

It is a very sad comment on me that my immediate response was "oh my god! Is my car alright?"

In my own defense I was assuming that as jez was capable of calling me and talking relatively coherantly while sounding mostly just pissed off, he was probably not seriously damaged. I wasn't so sure about the car.

It turns out that Pridwen is...wel...not entirely OK. She isn't dead, but she's not a happy car. The actual bodywork is fine, if a bit scratched, but the entire plastic bumper at the front (including the license plate and a couple of the lower lights) have come off, and the axel may be damaged. We're not sure how damaged. If it's broken (which it probably isn't) then the car is a write off. If it's just bent or slightly twisted, it's still going to require a lot of repairs. Either way, my no claims bonus has probably gone away.

Jez is also OK, but rather sore. His shoulder is not in a great state, but it doesn't seem to be in A&E bad state at the moment. His forearms are also knackered.

He's not sure how he ended up in a hedge. He was going at 15 mph, and coming back from dropping [profile] ksirafai and friends off at Canada Water tube station. He thinks he hit something in the road - it was opposite a petrol station, so it may have been an oil slick. It's generally a bit of a horrible experience.

Pridwen is now at a garage. We've not heard back from them, and won't until Monday. On the plus side, Mini Insurance have provided us with a complimentary rental car until Monday.

Me?

I'm stressing. I'm trying to be calm about the car, but a bit of me is getting anxious now. I know it's about as good a car crash as it could have been - slow, no one seriously hurt, no other cars involved - but it still hurts. That is my mini. Something I've wanted for years, and was so in love with when I bought her. My mini, with the front part ripped off, sitting somewhere and I don't know what the hell is happening next.

Ach. I'll survive. And really, it's only a car. Could be much worse. Must remember that. Could be so much worse...

Well, firstly damn glad Jez is in one peice.
Away from that- I TOTALLY understand about the mini. I stopped driving years ago, but I remember my first car. Yes, it had dodgy breaks, would suddenly stop running when it rained too much and above all would not work for anyone else, but I loved it.
I use to genuinely get worried when I had to service it.
Mine was called 'Albert' (mostly because you needed the brains of Einstien to work out how it kept going).
Ah well.

Hope both Jez and Pridwen are back to full working capacity for you soon.
:)

It's perfectly,
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<i<>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

It's perfectly, <i<>perfectly</i> fine to worry about your car. People heal, and people can let you know they're ok, but cars can't.

Well, I'm hoping it all turns out in the end, my mother says it often does and she's quite often correct.

Everything could have been a whole lot worse...

I am starting to think that this particular week was somewhat cursed...
