As someone who has Too Much Time On Her Hands, I offer the edited highlights:
Supernatural creatures are best avoided. If they can’t be avoided, they should be addressed respectfully. If a supernatural creature sets you a task you’re well and truly screwed.
...bring a friend with you. Friends keep bad things from happening. If things go badly anyway, you’ll need their help. And if things go well (hey, it could happen), it’ll be nice to have a friend along to share the laughs.
See?
If we stay together and stay away from any... er, thing at all, then we'll be fine.
Advice to live by in my opinion. Especially in worlds other than your own. We should, I feel, bone up on our knowledge of American folksong as well. Jez puts waaay to much store by those songs.
You definitely have folk songs. And folk dancing. Elle and Scott and myself all saw an Applachian folk dancing team doing a display at the Warwick Folk Festival.
I was forced into taking a country western dance class in collage (someone with breasts asked me to). It was as nightmarish as one might imagine. They were upset at me because I didn't understand the most "logical" of steps.
Actually, the music was quite cheery and the dancing was rather good, with rather a lot of 'yee ha' moments. I rather liked it. I may have little taste, however.
It was great. Everyone should try appalachian at least once. It's really good fun, if deceptively complicated. Most of the giggling comes from getting it horribly wrong the first 15 times.
Well, if I had to bet money on who most resembled an insane giggling girl who looked pretty dancing, had creepy insights and could suddenly kill everyone in the room... it would probably be Scott.

It must be so.

Was it an Authentic American Experience?

I'm still a little bitter.
