I'm alive.

I'm home.

I'm about a stone and a half lighter and have gone down nine cup sizes.

Many adventures in hospital. Haven't slept since Tuesday. The world is therefore an odd place.

Many many thanks to [profile] pierot, [profile] wildrogue, [profile] aardnebby, my sisters and my Dad who visited me in hospital. Other thanks to [personal profile] faerierhona and [profile] melsner for getting Stuff (tm) to me. Twas muchly appreciated.

I now have a Ginnie, a jez and an Elle here. There will be soup later. For that I am happy. There may also be eye of newt. Not sure why. It's just a gut feeling I have.

More to come when I'm more awake and have gotten some food into me.

14 pounds to a stone.

Why don't Americans use stones?

Because having a conversion word for "14 pounds" is really silly. Who on Earth thought of that?! 14 is not a magic or clever number in any reguard. No one *ever* things to them selves: "Gee, my cat weighs 14 pounds. Egads! I just used SO MANY words to describe my cat's weight! I sure wish just *one* word existed to denote 14 pounds. My cat *is* grey, and right now, he looks sort of stone like...Eureka! I will call it...stone." Never happens, guarenteed.

One does wonder how they came up with that...

Probably some farmhand was clearing the field of rocks one day and someone said, "Hey, Cedric, how heavy is that rock?"

"One Stone, you arse!"

although I like the cat version better.

One could argue that having a conversion word for inches is equally silly. Or fluid ounces, or indeed most of the imperial system. But we've got them anyway. I was wondering why it's just that one that doesn't get used.

Because they're very difficult to carry around, plus you also have to have the scales upon which to place the stones and the object you want to compare.
