This is a quick entry.

First of all, I wanted to say

THANK YOU

to [personal profile] headinclouds and [personal profile] twicedead for being wonderously supportive and good to me over long distances, and to [profile] lanfykins, [profile] pierot, [profile] wildrogue, [profile] ksirafai, and [profile] aardnebby for being great and patient in person. I am aware I have been stressed and panicked lately, and currently appear to have created whole new mountain ranges in the back garden, with only one small mole to help me in these constructions.

You are all appreciated and are all loved.

Secondly, I thought I'd do a quick overall look at my life, preferably written while I'm not fretting about anything.

I'm approaching the end of term now. Tomorrow is my last ever tutorial. I'm writing up the last of the relentless stream of weekly essays, and then all I have to write in the future will be two assessed essays, and my dissertation.

My dissertation is actually going rather well at the moment. Carlisle is a wonderful place, for it has evidence of romanitas into the fifth century. Selkirkshire is even better. The christians up there obligingly carved an assortment of grave stones in Latin in the fifth century. Probably just because they wanted to help me out. I've got a good collection of notes and I'm beginning to get quite hopeful about how it might pan out.

Essay-wise - my essays are getting a lot better. I'm now back to hearing a phrase I used to hear during my first degree; "It's a very well written and well structured essay". OK, so then the criticism comes, but I know how to write essays again.

I am tired. I am little burnt out on the constant essay writing, and today I realised that the hospital worry was getting to me as I began to phase out horribly during my morning lecture, but term is nearly over and I'm feeling pretty positive about the rest of my masters.

Health wise - I'm pretty much sorted on the hospital stuff, except for the slippers. I've not found a pair of slippers quite vile enough to make me feel good about buying them. I need something the size of footballs in animal shaped fluff. My hospital-phobia is acting up a bit, but this last week I've actually been mostly calm. I'm using SLA Industries as a distraction tool horribly ([profile] wildrogue and [profile] pierot have angelically indulged me in this) and I'm occasionally requiring soothing, but I do know it will be OK.

I am a bit anxious on occasion. On some days I feel like I am having to swallow all this tension and stress and then a little thing will happen and I'll find I've got nothing left and go KABOOM. I'm getting stressed over little things, and I wish I wasn't. Hopefully the morphine will stop that when I actually get in to hospital.

I'm also being photographed by [personal profile] mortalcity on Saturday which I'm really looking forward to. I get to see [profile] hildekitten as well which should be nice.

And finally, would anyone out there be interested in a 7th Sea larp, either ongoing or one off? Elle and I got to discussing last night whether it would be feasible to run one. If so - what kind of 7th Sea style larp would people find interesting?

Possibly be interested in 7th Sea. I don't know it very well though so not able to answer the "what kind" bit. :)

You know I'd be there...

For 7th Sea.

For one offs then some large event is usually good, a formal court ball for intrigue, or the gathering of various of the Secret Socities to dicuss some great threat - or even an auction held to sell off Syrneth artifcats from a collection that used to belong to a prominent Explorer's member, recently deceased... and that's just off the top of my head.

Plus I have the right cool costume and everything :)

I did think of you when the idea came up.

Our original idea was a fairly traditional Vodacce court setting, but later discussion did turn to an Ussuran court for a more rugged and fur clad setting. We do have a fair few Russia junkies around and I'm quite fond of it.

The other idea which [profile] davedevil and I talked about AGES back was one day running a larp set on a pirate ship.

Yeah the thing with the court settings and too an extent the pirate one is that they do lend themselves to being more exclusive in terms of the type of characters that would have reason to attend.

Whereas going for something a bit more open such as the Societies Council of war or Auction type affairs mean almost anyone can be present for almost any reason.

It depends on whether you're going to write it as a large freeform with all pre genereated and plotted characters or let people just turn up with what they want to play too.

But nice to be thought off :)

You HAVE to post some of your essays. I'm desperate to read about what you've been studying.

I have the jones for some artifacts. (Seriously)

Scaring me now! :p

Seriously? Erm - Byzantine or Anglo-Saxon essays? The Byzantine ones are WAY better written, but I think I'm more interested in the Anglo-Saxon stuff.

Byzantine, I adore Byzantine art and scuplture. All those mosaics...

*ahhh*

I just went into some kind of geek overload, didn't I?

I would be interested, because I like the look of 7th Sea, but not having played a proper game* of it, I'm not sure quite what. Still, nice idea and I'd like to see it happen.

*ie a game which isn't run by 15 year olds and doesn't have a character called "Roger the Cabin Boy". Yes, I actually played in this campaign. No, it didn't last.

Ooooooh, 7th Sea LARP... I'd travel the country for that! I love 7th Sea. And the idea of a big Vodacce court setting...yum!

*ahems*

So yes, 7th sea LARP, I can't see you having many problems at all getting a fairly large crowd interested :)

As for slippers, well I have a pair of giant fluffy bear ones with little feet at the front...I believe you can get fairly hideous and yet cuddly slippers from the Disney Store :)

7th Sea: LARPs work well in enclosed situations... so a pirate ship is the obvious one for me. Maybe a bunch of crews come together to be offered privateer contracts by one of the monarchs, is it a trap, or is it a scam? Who knows?

And as for slippers:

Is this the sort of vileness you seek?

That's SO repulsive! It's hideous! It's disgusting! It's wonderful!

Yes. I need to wander around a hospital, crushing small bunnies as I go.

If you are gonna run a 7th Sea Larp you are best to make it a close game for a one off.

Had ideas for one of these a while back and would be happy to help out run it etc.

What size are you? I have a pair of obscenely fluffy slippers roughly the size of footballs in a size seven which you are quite welcome to borrow.

As a boost to the health thing ...

Imagine a girl about a foot shorter than me, constantly going around hunched over, in huge shapeless cardies. Everyone assumed she was overweight.

The one day she turned up standing straight. In a skimpy top. With a huge grin.

This was a friend of mine. She was literally a foot shorter than I am, with a trim waist / hips - and something like a H cup. She'd gone through hell with back / shoulder / all over pain. And the nice NHS agreed that this could be funded by them and they did their magic and suddenly she was no longer in pain, no longer forced to wear huge shapeless things that didn't actually fit because she was something like a size 8. She reclaimed her life and her health.

She did spend an entire LARP event flashing her bra at people - I don't think you have to follow her example.

Basically - hospitals are scary scary things. But you're going to feel so much better once you've been sorted - just like my old friend.

*hugs*

You'll be fine.

I know it seems really scary, but you will be fine. PErhaps a bit sore for a few days. I'll be thinking of you when you are away getting stuff fixed. Just think what it will do for your confidence!
