I've just got off the phone with the Manor Hospital in Oxford. My plans for my operation are currently as follows:

They are expecting me at 11 am on March 16th. The op is scheduled for 2 pm - so no breakfast. I'll be in hospital for two days after that, leaving on either the morning of March 18th or the evening of March 17th, depending on how it goes.

I'll have open visiting hours - I've got my own room so if people want to show up, they can. I might be a bit out of it, though. I'll not be allowed my mobile phone, but I will have my own direct line phone number while I'm in if people want to call.

I've still not managed to get through to Doctor Goodacre. His secretary only works two days a week - I've left a message on her answerphone asking her to get back to me, but there is nothing yet. I need to get a letter from him for college, saying exactly how long he thinks I'll be unfit to work properly in order to sort out my deadlines. I'd also not mind checking with him that [profile] pierot isn't wasting his annual leave taking time off to look after me.

I think I may also spend today trying to see if I can order some books for my time in hospital. Possibly a couple of comfortable academic books.

Gods, I'm nervous about this. I'm trying to view it as some kind of magic diet. I'm going to lose pounds and pounds of flesh! That's got to be a good thing! It still worries me though. I woke up this morning at about 7 am fretting about my masters and deadlines - that's actually what is worrying me the most right now.

Gah. I can do this. I know I can.

You can do it, and it will change your life for the better, that's why you are doing it!

And yeah, quick weightloss! wahoo!

Seriously though, it's unsurprising that this is gonna be a worrisome time, but it will all work out in the end. *sending comforting thoughts*

You'll be fine and you're very brave and clever.

Just make sure they don't accidentally remove a leg.

You can do this and you'll be fine. Are you staying in Lambourn afterwards to recouperate and make sure you have lots of people to look after you?

Good luck. And remmeber, when they draw on you with permenant marker, it's not just a med student joke. It actually serves a purpose.

It also takes forever to wash off.

Can we get phone number and nay kind of address to send aid parcels to? I have a book whihc might well make you froth and gnash your teeth if you're interested......

Ooh, ooh, ooh! I have a book that will probably make her froth and gnash more :)

In fact... if I raid my Arthuriana collection...

Two weeks. That's not long. Try not to stress yourself out.

On the book front, I'd take something that takes virtually no brainpower to read, like a book you would re-read on a rainy day. Reading when slightly doped up can be tricky.

I'll try and visit you while you are recuperating.

I was going to send Eragon, a moving tale about a young boy who finds a dragon and joins with her to try and resurect the lost Dragon Riders.

The dragon spends most of the book metaphorically rolling her eyes at the boy and saying "yes dear."

It's... a classic example of its genre.

I... see.

Actually... that reminds me that I have a series of four fantasy books (which are probably for children, but hey, who's noticing) that I think [livejournal.com profile] annwfyn should read. It involves a princess who gets told off for hating embroidery and talking the court scholar into teaching her Lating :)

Books: I got through all but 20 pages of Goblet of Fire between checking in & going off for the chop, then absolutely nothing in the 2 days after. The anaesthetic & painkillers screw over your concentration (Dad noticed the same when he had his gall bladder out). You can start reading a paragraph, then suddenly it's 10 minutes later, your cup of tea's gone cold and you're staring out of the window at a particularly dull patch of grass.

You'll be fine. Really.

I'm feeling a lot better having spoken to the nice doctor's secretary. It is all looking pretty good atm. Still panicking a bit about university, but that's mostly all.

The last thing I said before going under the last time I had surgery was "please don't harvest any of my eggs while your in there poking about" The nurse said in response..."But miss you didn't sign anything saying we couldn't..." I highly reccomend a bit of pre-op humour to keep them on their toes. As I recall I also requested a bucket of crack when they asked if they could get me anything. :) You'll be fine, luv, and of course, if not, Melsner will have more money to spend on me. ;)
