I often think that Star Wars would be very different if we got the subtitles of what Chewie was saying.

But I prefer the idea that Obi-Wan and Yoda's plan was a bit more sneaky than just getting a jedi in place to fight - after all if Yoda couldn't take the Emperor then no new Jedi could possibly do so. So they raised Luke to bring back Anakin... they raised a sandy haired moppet on Tatooine with the name Skywalker - so Vader would see him as a reflection of all he had lost and they might be able to get Anakin back for just long enough to take down the Sith.
Clearly since force ability is assumed to be inherited in this scenario, they were hoping to create some superpowerful Jedi by bringing up the twins separately, so they could later be socially manipulated into inbreeding without emotional squickfactor... ;)
(Of course, it does beg the question if where baby Jedi came from BEFORE anakin decided to be uniquely subversive and have sex ;)
Well, if we assume that Force ability is mostly recessive but grants some level of improved survival/breeding prospects on even those who are heterozygous for it, it's not really surprising at all. After all, only those who are homozygous for it die without offspring, so you're not removing all the carriers from the population.
Genetically speaking, it's pretty much analogous to the sickle cell anaemia thing, where one copy of the gene is beneficial (in environments where malaria is endemic, anyway) but two are baaaaaad.
...why yes, yes I have spent too much time contemplating the practicalities of societies in which all magic-users are required to be celibate :)
The alternative is to assume that the first three films is just R2 bullshitting about how he was this badass Republic commando with leg rockets and oil slicks and shit.
