*happy sighs*
Mar. 13th, 2010 02:35 pmSo, I recently watched Season One of Glee. Having watched it, I can see why:
a) some of my friends find it really quite hinky. The show talks a good talk about diversity, but then uses some of the non-sparkly pretty white able bodied leads all the damn time, whilst criminally underusing their much more varied supporting cast. Mercedes and Artie, in particular, have the most amazing voices which are almost criminally underused.
b) some of my friends find it epically glorious. The songs are fab, I find the characters very loveable and it's just terribly fun to watch. Plus, it has Sue Sylvester, who I find utterly inspirational as a villain and want to set up a small shrine to.
And, because I'm a sharing creature, I offer you some of my favourite songs, so you can feel the magic.
Here is a mash up of the Glee club boys singing 'It's My Life/Last Confessions' - not on youtube and here is 'Don't Stop Believing', also not on youtube.
BTW, in case anyone was wondering, I shan't be in Hatfield this afternoon, as I have Stuff To Do, but may be there for a bit this evening. Hope to see as many as possible this evening!

Date: 2010-03-14 08:53 pm (UTC)The JAP (Jewish american Princess): who has two gay dads of different races, and doesn't know which one is ther eal one.
The stupid jock
The sex-crazed jock, whose Jewish family bond whilst eating sweet and sour porek and watching Schindler's List
The guidance counsellour who is full of the crazy
The mixed minority slack-off who has job security (and sells drugs on the side)
The dumb blonde who thinks being Dutch is a minority
The gay boy soprano whose just too into fashion but wins the football game thanks to Beyonce
The sassy big black girl with the big voice, who actually doesn't have that much of a chip on her shoulder
THe driven blonde bimbo cheerleader, but straight-A student and now knocked up--but she's a bitch.
The man-eating, manipulative familt/in-law
The lush mother
The underachieving "I coulda been" father
The blonde bimbette wife
The mentally challenged guy the bimbette exploits
The gay guy who wants to be Liza Minelli
The ball-busting CHeerleader coach
THe disabled nerd--in the jazz club
And it's wonderful.
I have also just bgeen forcefed several episodes of Community and recommend it as well.

Date: 2010-03-15 03:16 am (UTC)And yes, Sue Sylvester is awesome. Great break for the Jane Lynch, who has done a whole lot of cameo roles in various other programmes.
I sort of like the way it unabashedly plays on the cliches. It allows them to communicate so much about the character to the audience really quickly. You could get into the characters at a glance, then bring out their depth later on.
