This is a cry for help!

I am currently looking for show tunes for my own dark purposes* and can't find songs of the following sort:

1) A song which might be appropriately sung whilst entering a strange and creepy town. Basically, if there was a musical version of Silent Hill, I'd be really pretty.

2) Songs about death. Right now, I've got 'Suicide is Painless' by the Manic Street Preachers and 'Don't Fear the Reaper' by Blue Oyster Cult and that's it. But I need more. I know these are technically not show tunes, but I just want songs about death.

Yes. I know how bad that sounds.

Can anyone help me? I'll love you all forever.

*OK, because I want to write a trashy pastiche musical about a larp I'm currently playing in which will make people laugh.

1. "Wicked Little Town" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Please note that there are 2 versions.

For entering a strange and creepy town, you could always take "London" from the Sweeney Todd soundtrack.

As far as death goes - "I will Follow You into the Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie is among my favorites. Evanesence also has more than one like Immortal, or Hello.

Der Doppelgänger by Franz Schubert is very Silent Hill (well, maybe more Silent Hill 2). You Tube link here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhBWKeJZ_1g). Not really sure if it would work as part of a musical, but it's definitely strange and creepy.

Lyrics/translation (from Wikipedia):

Still ist die Nacht, es ruhen die Gassen,
In diesem Hause wohnte mein Schatz;
Sie hat schon längst die Stadt verlassen,
Doch steht noch das Haus auf dem selben Platz.

Da steht auch ein Mensch und starrt in die Höhe,
Und ringt die Hände, vor Schmerzensgewalt;
Mir graust es, wenn ich sein Antlitz sehe -
Der Mond zeigt mir meine eig'ne Gestalt.

Du Doppelgänger! Du bleicher Geselle!
Was äffst du nach mein Liebesleid,
Das mich gequält auf dieser Stelle,
So manche Nacht, in alter Zeit?

~

The night is quiet, the streets are calm,
In this house my beloved once lived:
She has long since left the town,
But the house still stands, here in the same place.

A man stands there also and looks to the sky,
And wrings his hands overwhelmed by pain:
I am terrified catching sight of his face
When, by the light of the moon, I see my own.

O pale comrade, my very double
Why do you ape the pain of my love
Which tormented me upon this spot
So many a night, so long ago?

and from back in the (record) vaults

Click Click by The Beat

It's a one shot magazine , give it a spin
Open your mouth slide the barrel in
If you don't like it just don't do it again

Finger, trigger,
Click click
Click click click

One in thirty-five is saying sorry
Through a bottle
Say it's your job to scrape a living up,
That's all it does
Well thinking back over it,
Hurts twice as much as living
finger, trigger
Faster faster faster faster

One shot this is it
Did you delay ?
You call it a nightmare now I call it a day
You hold yourself steady
At the edge of the bed
As you say finger, trigger,
Click click click click click
Click click click

Faster faster faster
Faster faster faster
Faster faster faster

STOP

Happy Phantom, Tori Amos - thoroughly bouncy tune :)

---

And if I die today I'll be the happy phantom
And I'll go chasin' the nuns out in the yard
And I'll run naked through the streets without my mask on
And I will never need umbrellas in the rain
I'll wake up in strawberry fields every day
And the atrocities of school I can forgive
The happy phantom has no right to bitch

Oo who
The time is getting closer
Oo who
Time to be a ghost
Oo who
Every day we're getting closer
The sun is getting dim
Will we pay for who we been

So if I die today I'll be the happy phantom
And I'll go wearin' my naughties like a jewel
They'll be my ticket to the universal opera
There's Judy Garland taking Buddha by the hand
And then these seven little men get up to dance
They say Confucius does his crossword with a pen
I'm still an angel to a girl who hates to sin

Oo who...

Or will I see you dear and wish I could come back
You found a girl that you could truly love again
Will you still call for me when she falls asleep
Or do we soon forget the things we cannot see

Oo who...

'Goodnight Moon' by Shivaree is excellent - you have to listen to the final half-whispered verse for the punchline though. Here it is on Youtube. Love this song :)
