Just randomly, I thought I'd post up one of my favourite pictures ever.

I love that picture. I love the way you can almost feel the heat, feel the crackle in the air. I love the movement, the way you can see the tiger's nervousness in his bunched neck muscles. I love the fact it reminds me of the monsoon season in Nepal, where you could bathe in the rain, it was so warm. I love the fact that it has a tiger, which is normally shown as something big and scary as the rather frightened kid in all this.

I think I identify rather strongly with that tiger at times.

I think I also love that picture because I like tigers, and thunderstorms, and the tropics. All three together - how can that be wrong?

I don't suppose anyone else wants to share one of their favourite pictures with me?

I adore it. I've been to the National Gallery just to stand and look at it.

It's a bit of an "over famous" picture, but I've always adored it...

I love most of Turner's paintings that I've seen, but there's so much going on in this one. The old ship, the Temeraire, majestic even on her last voyage, contrasting with the dark modern steam tug, which seems uncouth when compared with the ethereal beauty of the old sailer. There's a mourning of the passing of an age, a parallel with old soldiers being put out to retirement. It's an unbearably sad painting, yet at the same time beautiful.

I've always liked Turner. I know he's not that fashionable, but I think he's great. The light in that picture is just incredible.

Yes. I like. Thank you for sharing. :)

There's an exhibition at the Tate Britain at the moment called "Turner Whistler Monet", which [livejournal.com profile] taimatsu and I were intending to go to last Saturday, but time and budgetary concerns limited us.

Oooh...is that one Breugel? I think I've got a print of that somewhere - it is gorgeous.

What do you like about it? I'm happy to listen.

It's Frans Floris.
I'm not a fan of Breugel I'm afraid (neither of the Old or the Younger ones).

You should see it in real life, then you'll understand ;)

There's a roundabout in Rochdale, which everybody calls The Tesco Roundabout because of its proximity to a certain supermarket. It's got a four-way underpass intersection going on, with the internal circular body of the roundabout being eleven foot high walls. The council designated the whole place as an urban arts area, to give a more productive outlet for all the town's graffiti, and the whole place is filled with the most beautiful artwork.

Near one of the underpass exits, there used to be the most incredible painting; a pale, almost translucent woman with long hair that slowly transformed into feathers as it spilled down her back. The expression on her face was more emotive than that of most of the people I've ever met; saddened, and determined, and knowing. I could have just stood and stared at it all day. Fortunately for me, it was a 24 hour Tescos.

The last time I went through that underpass, it had been painted over by something just as technically pretty, but nowhere near as soulful. I may very well be kicking myself for the rest of my life for not getting a picture of it whilst it was still there.

Image is the Bruegel pic I like. I saw it on holiday in Bruges or Brussels (argh - can't remember which one!) and really liked it. I think it's just the amount of STUFF going on.

Where is your pic on display? Somewhere in Belgium?

Occasionally, I get incompetent. :P

Then, I think it was because the site I stole it from did confusing things to the URL...

But yeah, I like Klimt a lot. There are probably others, but that's the first that came to mind. :) Image I also like.

This picture was brought to you by my desire to prove I'm not _entirely_ incompetent. :P

I wanted to find you another tyger picture. A specific one. I have a good print of it in a book at home. It's the Austin Osman Spare one and very, very lovely.

However, it doesn't appear to be on the web and I should do some work.

I guess.

Sorry.

Dali's Christ of St John on the Cross. I adore Dali's work, and this is just incredible. One day I'll even pop over to Glasgow and see it for real :) .
