I'm a member of a community called [profile] day_on_earth. It's a fun community - people from all over the world take a picture of things they see around them, and post them. So you can see what Thursday looks like in Texas, in Russia, in Finland, in Yorkshire.

And I like it, but, of course, all the people who post these pics are strangers to me. Equally, there are lots of lovely people on my friends list who's daily lives are equally strange to me. I don't know what their world looks to.

And therefore, today, I decided to bring [profile] day_on_earth to my LJ. I want you, my beloved flist, to post me pictures taken on Thursday 23rd April. Take a picture with your camera phone (or proper phone if you have one) of something you see - your office, your route to work, a flower by the side of the road that caught your attention. Take a picture and post it in the comments.

I'll love you forever. I will...

That's Lower Road, at 8 am this morning. It's the view from my bus stop. You can see my house on the far right hand side. It's getting a lot brighter in the mornings, which makes me happier - I suck at getting up in the dark.

I'll try and add some more pictures throughout the day.

So, flist, what does your day look like? Show me the world as you see it...

Two to get started with

I'm not sure how good the quality will be on these, as they're camera phone snaps set to one of the mid-quality settings on here. I'll grab some more by the end of the day, but might not be able to post them until tomorrow.

Another view from my building - just behind those trees is where I used to have an allotment.

Lower Road at 7.20am was not pretty enough to be photographed. :-)

Hey! I did it!

(although this might just prove your point)

I think that's the prettier end of the street, you know. Less grimy.

But closer to Deptford that Surrey Quays.

True. But when you live (well...housesit) between a pub and a takeaway, outside at 7.20am is not very pretty.

I think I know your sister's house, you know. It's got a metal thing on the wall outside that looks like it ought to be a pub sign, right?

Date: 2009-04-23 01:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madwitch.livejournal.com
Yes. A previous owner used to run a scaffolding business from there, and the remains of the sign have been up ever since.

She keeps meaning to get it taken down.

That is the very scruffiest bit of Lower Road. And the pub next door mildly scares me. It looks like a Local Pub for a certain type of Local People.

(I may, of course, be being a snob!)

Oh, it is. But they're somewhat better controlled since they were recently done for noise and serving after hours.

But they will teach you the Millwall songs, so that if you need to venture into the Blue, you can sing them if challenged.

Just got up to discover that a) my neighbour has a hidden talent, and b) she's been busy since the crack of dawn.

damn hitting of return before I meant to. But if I could show you, I'd show you a quad of golden limestone, with two0hundred-year-olsd wisteria climbing up one wall in riotous bloom, a copper beech bursting into leaf, and ducks sitting coyly on the edge of a fountain.

Good idea! Will do.

I like ideas that let us know more about the worlds our friends inhabit - seems to be a bit of a lack in the 21st century.

~nods~

I have no real idea what it is that most of my friends do, and how they spend their days. I talk to many of them over e-mail through the day, or see their updates by LJ, but I have no real idea what they do around the time when they're chatting, or what they see through the day, and it's kind of a shame...

I really really agree. There are all these people I talk to on a nearly daily basis, but they almost exist as abstractions in my mind.

More real reminders of what they see is a good thing.

Faceless communication runs that risk, I suppose - we just become disembodied streams of text, or at best voices on a phone line...

In our old office I was stuck in a lightless corner, so this is a vast improvement :) The greenery is the campus grounds and most of this week it's been covered with students sunbathing and having picnics. The sun's just come out properly now so I expect they will start going out there again!

The evil part of me is split between taking photos of a load of security cameras, or just using this. But I'll restrain that, and get a nice few of the British Library in a minute.

More photos of my day...

So, some more poor quality pics from my phone...

Image (http://pics.livejournal.com/adze/pic/0000sfa7/)
The main building here.

Image (http://pics.livejournal.com/adze/pic/0000tyh8/)
The nice walkway along the front of the building, through the carpark. A huge suntrap, and there are benches at each end & in the middle.

Image (http://pics.livejournal.com/adze/pic/0000wrs5/)
The fountain at the far end. Occasionally, there are ducks here.

Image (http://pics.livejournal.com/adze/pic/0000x448/)
One of the dozen or so magpies that seem to haunt the area of the building. I only ever seem to see all of them, or one on it's own. Lucky me - or not.

Last one for now

My desk, which is actually looking tidier than normal - usually there's printouts and things scattered across it, in addition to cans, bottles, cups and other rubbish.

The first one was taken from the shoreline of Lake Union and the second is looking back at University Bridge over the canal to Lake Washington.
