  • First of all, I have vanity to share with you. Yesterday, I finally caved and bought a tiny pot of this new mineral make up foundation that's been advertised everywhere and is apparently a new big thing.

I tried it this morning, and I have to say I'm quite impressed. It does give a lovely smooth finish, and gives me amazing coverage whilst still looking and feeling much less heavy than the normal foundation I'd wear. It looks less powdery than a normal powder, but feels a lot less oily than a normal foundation and doesn't smell funny which is fantastic as I've always disliked smelling of cosmetics and chemicals.

About the only downside to it is that it is enough of a serious foundation that it kinda means I need lipstick and blusher to make my face look like a normal face instead of a sheet of pallor. This may sound silly (why would I not wear lipstick and blusher if I'm doing make up?) but if I'm wearing a light foundation I'll often skip the blusher, and maybe just wear a dab of lip gloss rather than full make up. I'd also add that it does make my skin feel a little bit dry, which is weird.

I know [profile] wildrogue has raved about the staying power of mineral make up, so we'll see how I go over the day. The review I've read of Maybelline mineral foundation says that it's not the best for lasting forever. Still, right now it does look good, and I think it may definitely replace my Body Shop heavy creme foundation as my slap of choice for a night out.

  • After a kind of manic and brain draining week, I finally got a Night Of Floop, which was fantastic. Well, I had a nap when I got in from work, woke up around 7.30 pm, and then [profile] pierot, [profile] ksirafai and I had an evening flooped before the TV. And lo! It was glorious.

I recently acquired Season 3 of Supernatural, but hadn't started watching it, and last night turned into a bit of a marathon session.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but I will say that I've really liked this season so far, I like their world, which is nice and feels internally consistent, and I really liked Tamara, who appeared in the season premiere. Slightly weirdly, it appears that if I'm looking for a character to identify with, I find that sex and nationality trumps race. I find it far easier to identify with a black British woman than I do a blonde American woman, and far far easier than two American men.

I want Tamara to be a re-occuring character, but I have a bad feeling about her so far.

  • In quite exciting news, I am now officially a Permanent Member Of Staff at the Fan Museum. I've got a permanent contract, I've got a salary, and I've got new working hours, which mean I work 9.30 - 5 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (when I don't need to open up) and 8 - 4 on Thursdays and Fridays when I come in before anyone else to open up the museum and let the cleaner in.

Today was my first day of this, and I'm actually feeling slightly worried as the cleaner hasn't arrived yet, and I think this is a little bit late for her, but I'll hold on for a while yet.

  • Finally, [profile] pierot and I went to see Death Race on Monday. And lo! It was glorious.

It is trashy, it is silly, and I don't think anyone should try and drive like that in real life, but it rocked big time. I want to be an evil Prison Governor who forces the convicts to fight in gladitorial vehicular combat for my own dark purposes when I grow up! That might, of course, not be the point of the exercise, but that was the effect the film had on me!

So, your dating life has been practice for that? ;)

Congratz on the Real Job. Please send money to the White House, they need it.

And I think you look perfectly OKish without make up.

Excellent news about the job!!

I've been using the Lily Lolo mineral foundation and powder. There's a good range of shades, plus you can order cheap samples - have a look http://www.lilylolo.co.uk/

Makeup-wise, you may want to try a stain for lipstick/blusher. They work really well, and are obviously quite light on your skin.

That's a good idea, esp re: cheeks. I did have a really nice cheek stain a while ago, but I've NO idea what happened to it. Shall have to poke.

Right now I've got a couple of different blushers, and I've got a maybelline mousse which is meant to be a fake tan, but I tend to use as a brownish blusher instead. It kinda looks like OMG! BLUSH! PINK! than normal blusher and I think looks a bit more like I've just caught the sun or something, but it requires fiddling or it can be just too dark.

Something lighter would be nice. Shall go get another stain I think.

I find that the mineral eyshadows/blushes etc are ace at staying on, but the foundationy type stuff hasn't been so good. But I'm not complaining, as I got all mine as free samples. :-)

I've not even looked at the eyes/cheeks stuff yet. I tend to not use a lot of eyeshadow as is, so won't let myself use more!

The blush might be an idea...

Excellent news salary-girl. And in your field of expertise, no less.

Sadly, Tamara has yet to re-appear in supernatural, but this season still rocks.

Really lovely to see you yesterday, must do it again!

I keep meaning to try mineral make-up but I now only wear tinted moisturiser (unless it's a really important night-time occasion!) and I'm not sure how that compares...I notice a lot of cos have stopped making tinted moistruiser these days and it's harder to get so perhaps mineral make up has replaced it?!
xx

It was fab! I really enjoyed it.

It might be that the minerals have taken over. I've certainly seen the mineral make up advertised everywhere as being good for one's skin, and I think it does feel a little bit lighter.

The only thing I'd say is that it's definitely not moisturizing! If anything, it leaves my skin feeling a bit dry every day!
