Sleepy and disappointed
May. 6th, 2005 09:25 amI was woken up at 4 am this morning by a text message from my friend, Leah. She worked for the Lib Dem MP for Newbury, David Rendal. He just lost to the conservatives so she's out of a job.
It's a real shame. I liked David Rendal. He was a decent MP. He was local, his kids all went to the same school as me, his wife is a local GP and he really knew the area. He really cared about the area.
Damn Tories.
The rest of the election...I suppose tis a tad predictable. But still a shame.

However with that win and the other win Reading is a troy town now, where it used to be Lib Dem and Labour.
I feel bad that that your friend lost her job - but also I am happy as a Tory support that they won another seat in the area that didn't used to be tory.

Ach...it's just sucky. David Rendal was MP for years - it's got to be over ten years he's been doing that job and now...nothing.

Date: 2005-05-06 10:32 am (UTC)And that happens many times over every time someone loses a seat, of course. There's a bit hidden in the BBC election coverage that talks about it. Not something I'd really considered before - every time I celebrate a LibDem gain, I'm celebrating some other poor buggers losing their jobs.
