  • I have a new LJ icon! This pic was taken by the lovely [profile] reindeerflotila on New Year's Eve, up in Hatfield.

The full size picture, without the cropping and photoshopping, is here:

There's an [personal profile] adze in the background too.

  • I appear to be wearing conventional perfume. This is strange and peculiar, for I don't normally like it. [profile] pierot's mother gave me a bottle of Poison, by Christian Dior, for Christmas, and it actually seems to smell quite nice on me. This is strange, peculiar, and I feel strangely guilty about it. I am cheating on my BPAL!

This has, however, made me mildly curious. I know I have a lot of BPAL whore on my flist, but do people wear other perfumes? I mean conventional perfumes - Chanel No 5 and the ilk? And if so, which ones?

  • I know that I have a collection of geeks on my friends list. This does, of course, include a number of people who play *hiss* World of Warcraft. As many may know, I too waste my time on this particularly crack-like computer game, after being injected with my first fix by the ever dubious [profile] pierot, who wanted to be able to scream "what the hell is this moron doing in the Outlands? And why is the mage trying to tank for me? Who's doing DPS?" without me staring at him blankly.

As a result, I have a selection of Warcraft characters. My favourite is my Gnome Rogue (who is nearly level 30 now), but I've got a couple of others, including two which I quite like, but who's names I really dislike.

My question to the Warcraft geeks out there is "is it really worth spending £12 to re-name the two characters who's names bug me, when neither of them is my primary character?" and "if it is, can anyone help me come up with a name for an Undead Warlock who looks a bit like a voodoo priestess, and a rather pretty Drenai Hunter?"

  • I have a new book! I spent money, foolishly and frivolously, on amazon.co.uk, and now have a book on medieval hunting. The really sad reason for this purchase? My latest piece of tat original prose (I'm adding to Sally's Collection Of Unpublishable Novels) has just hit 10,000 words, and is set in a pseudo-medieval fantasy world. I need to know more about medieval hunting for the next 5000 words. I also need to know more about side saddle riding, and am wondering if there's any way I could somehow find my way to getting a side saddle riding lesson in the UK, but suspect this may be me being unnecessarily obssessive.

  • I need to go skating soon, especially as I got ice skates from [profile] pierot for Christmas. Right now I know this weekend is right out, due to crazy levels of larp commitment, but what about the second Saturday in January? I know that [profile] wildrogue and [profile] molez are provisionally up for it. Are you guys still free? And who else would like to come along? I promise, I'm not very good. I did skating classes when I was a kid, but I don't think I've skated properly since I was about ten or eleven, so it'll be hideously awkward all round.

    Anyone?

I am a designer perfume whore. Angel and Eau de Star being my primary addictions, but the sister bought me Gucci Rush for Christmas, so I'm happily indulged.

I used to wear Poison. It was my first designer perfume love.

I think [profile] ms_rodger (an old school friend of mine) had a bottle of either Poison or Tendre Poison when we were in fifth form which I tried a little bit of and liked.

Never bought a full bottle however, mostly because I've always loathed the smell of most perfume counters and don't get there to try or buy anything.

I'm told that Poison is quite an adolescent perfume, which makes me pout a bit, as I do really quite like it.

I like the icon, and the new layout, too. And now, when you use that icon, I can look and think "See that blur in the background? That's me, that is."

With your Warlock, I'd personally send all her stuff to another character, delete her and start a new one, with all the stuff sent back, and the new name, because she's not very high level, and it won't take long to get back there.

I also have a present for Ravi when she gets to 30 or 31.

Ice skating I might be up for - I've never done it, and have always wanted to try...

As suggested.

I deleted poor little Wednesdaywoe, and now have a new and shiney Undead Warlock (who looks exactly like her) called Ayizan, who is soon to receive all Wednesdaywoe's gear from Galuma, my Tauren.

I feel mildly guilty.

I think I will change Kaiyai's name tho, as I like her pets and have put a reasonable amount of effort to get them into the high teens.

Any idea on new names?

I wear Dolce and Gabbana's Light Blue as a daytime perfume and *cough* Burberry London as an evening perfume. Neither, clearly, on the brand name (though Burberry is less hideously embarrassing in Tokyo) but purely because they smell nice on my skin. Which hates Poison something chronic :)

Normal perfume makes me sneeze lots and lots so I can't really wear it, although there are ones I like! There is one called Burberry brit (I think) that I got a free sample of when my sister bought the big bottle in new york, and there is another one in a tiny bulbous bottle with smooth circles on it that smells nice too but I can't remember what it is called!

I'm not a wow geek, but I have played an mmorpg.

I would suggest that
a) It isn't worth it.
b) That if you really have £12 or even £24 pounds spare, you should give it to me, or perhaps better still the charity of your choice.

Bah! Stop being all worthy at me :p

Oh don't tell me to give the money to charity! :p

I have a set amount of disposable income, and it's normally about £30 a month to spend on something which is not food, bills, my normal donation to the Dog's Trust, or petrol, although it is sometimes as high as £70.

What I'm trying to decide is whether the amusement I will get from having properly named WoW characters is worth me putting some of my spending cash towards it, as opposed to another book, or some clothes, or something similar.

I think the fact that I spend money on things that some people may find silly (like books on medieval hunting, or perfume that smells of toffee apple, or lingerie that no one other than me and jez will ever see) is not in doubt.

ATM we're looking at Streatham, as being accessible for both Elle in Feltham, and me in Surrey Quays. You would, of course, be very welcome as would your lovely lady wife.

I find it really hard to get perfume that smells good while I'm wearing it, rather than just when it's in the bottle. So, my rather paltry collection of Claire-friendly perfume is: Tresor, Paul Smith's Rose, and Ghost. They're quite girly scents though and I can't imagine you wearing any of them!

I can't wear most commercial/designer perfume because of allergies. I either break out in a rash, or begin sneezing and can't stop. The only perfumes I can reliably wear are the ones made from essential oils, like BPAL, and even then, there are a few oils that trigger my allergies.

I wear Messe de Minuit by Etro. It's my signature scent and I only occasionally substitute it with a bpal for a wee change (Hemlock being the usual one).

I've always been fond of Poison but it never did smell right on me. Isn't it strange how much our skin chemistry can change a scent?

I once sprayed some Messe de Minuit on my sister and it the smell was awful.

I was taught to ride side saddle by a friend of my gran. She taught me almost everything I know about horses and riding. If you want, I could look her up (I'm not actually sure if she is still alive) and see if she knows anyone else in the UK she could recommend?

Skin chemistry does do amazing things to scent. I've had perfumes which smell lovely in the bottle, and then awful on me, and others which went the other way.

I also get very confused by how different perfumes with almost the same name are so very very different. I tried Midnight Poison a while ago, and it really wasn't nearly as nice on me.

And "ooooh - yes please" on the riding sidesaddle front. If it comes up, I'm pretty experienced at riding astride (been riding since I was 4, used to be quite good, probably a bit rusty now *looks sheepish*) but I've never ridden sidesaddle before.

As regards the WoW naming thing, it really depends on the level of the characters and how attached to them you are. I've been known to simply nuke characters level 20 or below and remake them, confident in my ability to level a new replacement abck up to 20 within a couple of days.

Date: 2008-01-03 05:21 pm (UTC)
ext_20269: (Default)
From: [identity profile] annwfyn.livejournal.com
Yeah...that's what a couple of folk have said to be now.

It must be said, I'm quite slow with my leveling. I've been getting better, but it's taken me months to get my first char up to level 30.

So far I've nuked the very little baby Undead, and managed to get her new-named replacement back up to the level she was at over this afternoon.

I'm still faffing over my drenai hunter. She's level 18, and I'm relatively fond of her. She's the one I really am unsure about how the time/money balance may work out on.

And out of curiosity, what do you play on WoW? I don't think I'm properly aware of what you play?

I have trouble with allergies and alcohol based perfume, which is why I converted to BPAL. I used to wear Zen by SHiseido, but they haven't made it for a long while now. Anais Anais was also one I would wear intermittently, which is a Cacharel scent, I think.
