On fanfic

I've been reading through the Yuletide Treasures fanfic, and have been really enjoying a lot of the stories there. There is actually some wonderful stuff.

I thought I'd throw a few of the nicer ones up here as recommendations for any of the folk on my flist who enjoy reading such.

First of all, some wonderful Narnia fanfic:

A Lucy/Rillian piece - a little disconnected from canon, but has a lovely fairytale feel.

A post-Lost Battle Susan story. Tis very Christian, but is a lovely story, and follows on nicely from the rest of the series.

A bit of Shasta/Aravis tat

Another post-Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe tat

Secondly, a single These Old Shades piece of fanfic for quisalan:

Leonie and Satanas - post marriage fluff

Thirdly, a piece of Belgariad pieces which is rather alarmingly slightly better that dirty great chunks of canon. I suppose Eddings isn't really that hard to compete with:

And finally, some rather cute Diana Wynne Jones 'Fire & Hemlock' tat, which I like, even though the Tom/Polly relationship still rather creeps me out:

I just wish there was more stuff up on the Yuletide Treasures site. It's easily the best fanfic site I've come across on the web.

For a second there, my brain recoiled. Because the Narnia stories are treasured pieces of my childhood. Things my father read to me when I was little. And despite the fact that I know that not all fanfic is sexual in nature, having recently been subjected to scary Harry Potter slashfic, it was the first thing that sprang to mind.

Oh, there is some Narnian dodgy slashfic up there. I refused to open up anything that was above a PG-13 rating, and the few that slid through my initial screening were swiftly abandoned after the first paragraph in which I caught wind of disreputable behaviour.

I know I'm not ready for any kind of suggestion that Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmund were involved in anything that my mother would have refused to read aloud!

It is a bit unfortunate that, if there *was* a decent amount of fic for the fandom, it would no longer be eligible for Yuletide.

On the other hand, it's a fantastic way to get into new series. And, after 1 January, you can go & stalk the authors' LJs... (I know the writer of the last link is on LJ for a start, and has excellent taste in friends.)

Nope! The fanfic I read / write is almost all manga / anime based at the moment. It avoids any mixups over whether it's *characters* or *actors* who're being described :) This was my fisrt Yuletide, as well - I only have one fic up there.

I meant to do Yuletide this year, but ended up not doing it - didn't even look at the pinch hits.

Have you tried looking back through the archives to the stories from the previous years?

Some of these come from there. I just roamed all over the site, scrabbling for new stories where I could find them.

It's actually inspired me to start writing tatty Narnian fanfic of my own. I'm now 2000 words into a Susan piece.
