I got an e mail today from one of the nice people on my course, reminding me that we are all finishing in June. I've only got another four months left before my lease is up, I've got a new qualification and less money than I had before.

How does time pass so quickly?

So have you any idea where you go once you've completed the course, any others that you'd want to do or jobs that you'd love to get into?

Ideas - well - I've got a lot of vague and kind of half thought through ideas. If I get a distinction in this I could probably get funding to do my phd, which I'd love. If I don't, I might still think about it, but it's an awful strain to do without funding. I've been sort of planning to move to London - in general the problem isn't that I have no idea what I want to do next. More that I'm realising that I don't need general life plans - I could do with working out some basics like 'where am I moving in June' or 'which city do I start job hunting in' at some point in the not too distant future.

Could you do a PhD anywhere else, with a merit or pass? Does it *have* to be Oxford? Could you, say, work at a museum and get them to sponsor you through a PhD at a London university?

I understand Sally. Don't listen to them and their simple solutions. The real world is a big and scary place that should be avoided. Sadly you're way too cool for a life of academia. Face it, anyone pre tudor wears tweed and wooly jumpers.

I wanna be in academia for life! We need to start writing books or something. Get famous and be paid to write books. That would be the good life. :)
