My birthday....
Feb. 8th, 2005 09:50 am...was mostly painless.
OK. That's not fair. It was mostly wonderful. It started with
ksirafai appearing to give me not-birthday presents on Friday night (a comic with the goddess of hedgehogs! This is cooler if you are me or Ginnie or have heard some of the odd and ongoing conversations we have had about hedgehogs) and has kinda just got better.
I had lunch in London on Sunday with a group of lovely people, including Gemma, who is one of my best friends from school. Even if she did rather scare me by asking me whether I was planning on marrying
pierot and why she felt weddings were always a good idea. The evening was Cirque du Soleil - Dralion - which was just magical. The aerial pas de deux will stay with me for a long time. Two people spinning around in the air, held up only by two blue silk scarves - it was wonderous.
My actual birthday, on Monday, involved lunch with my sisters and my almost-brother-in-law and then birthday cake in the evening with
isalani,
pierot,
lanfykins,
wildrogue, and
imnotagoth. A vaguely bleak mood began to take me towards the end of the evening, mostly in an irrational way. I missed Mum. I felt very lost and very loose - without grounding - as if everything was floating and I was floating with it. A bit of me just wanted to float away.
Jez hugged me and did his best to be soothing. He did pretty well considering the fact that he was dealing with something that wasn't actually a problem anywhere other than my head. Today I am feeling a hell of a lot better. I wish I did have something resembling stability in my life, but I'll get that one day. I will keep working towards it and that's all I can do. I want to do well in this Masters, and then I want to get a job and a house. Those shall be my goals. I shall keep missing Mum, but I'll live with it.
And overall I had a really good birthday. That is something to be thankful for.
Today I'm back in Oxford and trying to make sense of assorted manuscripts. The Byzantines did write on an awful lot of random objects, you know.

Date: 2005-02-08 10:30 am (UTC)Shall be keeping fingers and toes and bits of hair crossed for you. I may get funny looks on the hair do front, but I think it will be worth it.
Hope it goes well.

Date: 2005-02-08 10:48 am (UTC)*nodsnods* So do I. It may also stop me getting random phone calls from people at Angela Mortimer who, though lovely, are largely trying to sell me on 'it's your job, but... bigger?', which confuses me slightly when I've explained in small words that I'm leaving this job because it Kills My Brain. Though, to be fair, it is really quite sweet to feel all popular and Phoned a lot. ;)
Aaanyhow. Take care, have fun with the Byzantines, keep me entertained if you can be bothered, and see you tomorrow. :P

Date: 2005-02-08 10:49 am (UTC)It's February. That's always a dangerous time to try anything social. We know that. I think I survived quite well, considering the numbers of demons that were out, waiting to pounce.
