I'm in Australia.

*does the jet lagged dance*

The journey was surprisingly painful. I have come to the conclusion that I disagree with [personal profile] twicedead* who said that London-Melbourne is hell, however you do it, and at least China Eastern are cheap. Cathay Pacific made SUCH a difference. Good food, stewardesses who spoke English, a selection of films and games available via the back of the headrest in front of you and a really plushy airport in Hong Kong really turned the journey from being HELL HELL HELL to instead being merely hellishly tiring.

We arrived (we being me, [profile] pierot, [profile] ksirafai, [profile] molez and [profile] castorlion on Thursday at 6 am. We got picked up by two nice local Cam people, and since then have been living in this weird world of jet lag. However, I have been able to see a lot of the lovely people I met last time, met some new folk (all of who know [profile] suchid. It appears that Liam has become the nexus of the role playing world somewhere along the line), and have already found myself shopping again. Melbourne is very bad for my bank balance. But I've got a gorgeous red silk top now.

Over the next week we're hopefully going to move beyond shopping, drinking, sleeping and meeting Australians and actually do some tourist stuff. I'm entirely behind on LJ, e mail and all forms of communication. So, is England still there? Has it been blown up by terrorists again? That always seems to happen when I leave the country.

What's your news? How are you doing?

*This is, of course, unusual, for Ben is usually the font of all wisdom. *nods nods nods*. Oh, and Ben - MattMatt has been radiating smugness for having listened to you ever since we got here and he pulled out an umbrella as it started raining while th rest of of simply collapsed into soggy heaps.

*chuckles* I anticipated that people might mention me somewhere down the line. :)

You were, indeed, correct in this assumption. I feel very much as if I'm name dropping by mentioning you now! :p

Did you mean "painless"?

No she means painful. The act of disagreeing with me causes all good people terrible agony.

No explosions as yet - but if there are any you have now revealed a causal link. As Britain is the home of empiricism we will therefore never allow you to leave the country again ; )

PS - Have fun over there!

I'm doing good. I even did gardening yesterday in our one day of warmth for the year. Apparently yesterday Epsom was warmer than Melbourne.

Apparently the Aquarium in Melbourne is excellent, check it out.

As for the price of flying China Eastern, I think that I can find a better use for the £600 odd pounds we saved by flying with them rather than Virgin, BA or Cathay. As you say, Melbourne is fun to shop, eat and drink it, and £600 takes you far.

Melbourne = April = Rain. Surely everyone knew that? And remember, like Resolution, in this case Matt is not smug, he's just right.

I think it's personal choice. I know that for me, the flight with China Eastern was icky enough that I was prepared to pay the extra money for a flight where I wasn't almost literally climbing up the walls. I'm mildly claustrophobic tho, so really appreciate having things to distract me on long plane flights.

I can see your logic tho. I just know that I'll always pay for a TV screen in the back of my seat in future! If nothing else, it means I don't feel like I wasted the time on the plane - I rather liked catching up on movies.

Yeah, travelling that distance is hell. Which is why I only get home about once a year. And why when you said "come to Melbourne", I said "no no no no no".

Now, imagine taking your journey, and adding another 3 hours (Melbourne to Auckland), then another hour (Auckland to Wellington). Yes, I have done a 5 leg trip, and it is not fun.

I remember Hong Kong airport. I got accosted by a bunch of school kids who wanted to test out their English. Or maybe that was Singapore. All those airports begin to blur into one after a while...

Hong Kong airport has the huge squishy big arm chairs and sofas. But not enough of them. We wound up hunting around for ages until we found a lone chinese man sitting at a table. We then proceeded to ask him if the other chairs were taken and swamped him.

He headed off shortly afterwards looking mildly disgusted at my bare feet.

Hi, I found you throught a random LJ search. :) We appear to have some similar interests. so I thought maybe we could be LJ buds. :)

I hope you're enjoying Australia. My friend is doing an exchange from Canada in Sydney right now, and she's loving it.
