Election results....
May. 3rd, 2008 10:15 amI'm less upset that Boris Johnson is mayor, and considerably more upset that the BNP took 5.33% of the total vote.
That's thousands of people. 48% of registered voters turned out to vote, and I believe that's several million people. Five per cent of them voted to ban women wearing the islamic veil from public transport, to encourage the police to harass young black men, and overall voted for a party who say that if they ever come to power on a national level, their first act would be to offer £50,000 to anyone of Black or Asian descent who is prepared to leave the UK and return to their country of ethnic origin.
There's a candidate, representing these things, on the London Assembly.
That is upsetting me.
At least the Green party has two seats, so I guess my vote counted for something.
*sighs*
I feel like the world it is a'changing. And not in a good way.
