So, Sally, how did the new job go yesterday?

It went pretty well. The people are nice, the office is comfortable, the commute can be be done in about 35 minutes, I'm right next door to [profile] ksirafai, thus allowing for lunchtime meetings-up, and I seem to be able to do the work. There are a few downsides - I don't think I'm really contactable by phone in office hours (I am on a switchboard and am really not meant to be on another phoneline if someone calls), and I'm not sure if LJ is allowable at work. The Cancer Research UK firewall blocks it it I try to go there directly. If I go there via a link it's fine, but it does make me a bit nervous. As such, I may therefore not be on LJ vast amounts over the next week or so while I work out what is and is not allowable here.

Oh, and weren't you seeing 'Serenity' last night?

I was. I think it's best I don't talk about it though, as I think I might offend people.

What? But it's a film of dazzing brilliance that everyone loves and has touched them like nothing else!

I think that's why it's best that I don't talk about it. It appears that I have no soul and have but a cold and stony heart.

Either that, or I walked into the wrong film entirely. Are there two space westerns out at the moment? It would explain a lot.

Erm. No. It's just Serenity. I think you saw the right film.

Oh. Bugger.

*grins*

I may put up my possibly slightly negative review later.

It is likely to be rather long tho. I spent some time ranting at jez last night when we got home on the topic of 'everything that was wrong with that goddamn film'.

Just wait until after saturday.

I'm not terribly concerned by you not liking the film, you weren't exactly a huge fan of the series either.

Hooray for new job.

I liked the series in places, but felt it was terribly overhyped, and then felt that the film had managed to take all the bits of the series which annoyed me and none of the bits which left me with a grudging fondness for it.

That was bad. But I shall try and be quiet and not spoiler until after you've seen it.

I _think_ I'm at MattMatt's LT event being a monster with a sword. That is if I manage to send the forms off today. I really really do need to!

You know, I'd call in well to work if I could breathe properly. But as is, I'll call in sick instead, hide in a bath for a few hours and then try to clean my room, I think.

Humbug. Self-fulfilling prophecies are no fun at all.

On the other hand, time to clean my room is never overrated. :)

Hmm, I'm probably partially responsible for the overhype, because damnit I loved the series. I think it's just something that speaks to some people and not others, which is probably why it won't be a hugely successful franchise.

Don' worry about the forms. Stay at home, have lunch with me. Monstering is muddy hard work, and Ben's Completely Lying Weather Service, predicts rain, flaming rain, rain of toads and frequent lightning strikes for that day.

Eh. Opinions are fine. I sometimes think that people are being too hard on movies, but that might be a case of me butting heads with Ginnie about movies and being stuck in that mode.

The problem with the movie for me is that it was a show originally. And now its a movie. So I cant say 'Wow, I really liked what we saw last night, I cant wait to watch more'

'What? What do you mean there isnt anymore?'

That sort of thing.

It definitely did have a different feel to it than the TV show.

I actually deliberately avoided the series due to the overhype. I'd intended to see it at some point but not because people told me I had to cos it was great because then there'd be pressure. So in the end I started watchign the series a couple of weeks ago when I popped round to see my old housemate and she said she was off to watch firefly and I should come along. She persuaded me and I watched it and really enjoyed it. I stringly suspect though that if I'd seen it because people made me (rather than by accident) that I'd have been looking for bad stuff just to prove them wrong. I'm like that.

Yeah, I felt a bit like that. I've seen the pilot now, which was fun, but I still don't get the squeeing and squeaking over OMGhowsexytheyallareOMG, or anything else. It's just... TV.

I adored Serenity and Firefly, but I'm a big fan of old Westerns--y'know the ones with the wacky camera angles and not-quite-focused zoom-ins. I also love the fluidity and consistency of the dialect.
