Right.

[profile] pierot and I sat down today and worked out our approvals list for Zeitgeist Garou. Basically, everything is either:

  • Banned - Just no. Really. Behave. Now.

  • Highly restricted - If you come up with a really good concept we will talk about it.

  • Restricted - Come up with a good background and it'll depend on numbers etc already in the game. Unlikely to be more than one of this creature type in game.

  • Allowed - Gen up a PC and have fun!

The banned stuff is mostly comprised of creature types which have either been described as dead and extinct, are basically antagonists instead of protagonists within this venue, or really could not exist in the game setting, such as the Pumonca who's yava states that they die if they leave America.

Everything else is open to discussion. As another warning, the decision we've made is that we're going to allow Garou, Kinfolk and one corax (linked to the Tower of London) into play at first, and after that there will be one fera slot open for every ten garou characters that we have designed and brought into play.

We've also talked about starting rank. Cliath will be the base, with three people needed to make you a fostern, five for adren, nine for athro and thirteen for elder. Athro and Elder are going to be restricted on top of that. That doesn't mean 'no' - it means 'you need a background and a good reason'. Homid is not restricted - metis and lupus are restricted insomuch as we want at least 50% of the game to be homid, and if that starts to go by the by then we'll cut back on non-homid breed.

There are pretty much no banned totems etc - all pack totems are open, pending discussion with me and jez. Anything big has to be run past both of us.

Anyway, here is the list...

Extinct Fera

Grondr – banned
Apis – banned

See you then!

The Grondr were the wereboars - they went on quests, cleansed sores etc. They were mostly wiped out in the War of Rage, and the few survivors had to take refuge with the vampires of the First or Second City (can't remember which), and became the Skull Pigs, which are vile and gribbly monsters. Some of their kinfolk may survive.

The Camazotz were South American werebats - they watched over the night as the corax watched over the day. They were wiped out by the Shadow Lords in Conquistador times. Their totem later went insane and fell to the Wyrm. Again, they probably have kinfolk surviving.

The Apis (I think that's their name) were were-aurochs - a kind of were-cow - the matchmakers of Gaia. I think they did auguries and other mystic nonsense. Their crinos form was the minotaur. They were mostly wiped out in the War of Rage, and the minotaur of Greek myth was meant to be one of the last survivors. They are dead and gone and even their kinfolk are dead now. I think Gaia realised that she'd just gotten a bit silly.

Erm. Yes. Ahem.

I think there is a clear correlation between ratkin and wombles, and that should be understood and appreciated.

Maybe, maybe not. The reason all my Cam PCs have been low approval is simply that I'm really reluctant to stand up and say 'this character is so great you should let me play it', especially when I don't know how the character will turn out.

I do have the bare bones of a concept, and an excuse for it to be in the country, but...

Personally, I'd argue that Uktena should be a lower approval level than Wendigo... Uktena are far more likely to travel, looking for some occult secret or another. They also breed outside of Native American stock these days; they knock up any disenchfranchised minority group with a reputation for magical heritage...

Any restrictions on breeds? You don't want everyone and their dog (pun intended) playing lupus...

and hopefully people will be mean to metis. :)

To be honest, that's not a bad start. I have no issues with you just saying 'this is my concept' and then we can chat about it and stuff. I don't want to make the restricted background a hoop to jump through, or a way to rewards good writers or people who are happy to write long and epic stories before the char is even in play.

I think I'd mostly just quite like to know that I'm not going to turn around and find Ryan asking me why I've got 17 wendigo, a white howler and a camazotz in the game. Baby Jesus starts crying over stuff like that.

Honestly, I don't think that it's going to be too hard to get a highly restricted char through. Essentially, all it means in an independent game is that you actually have to talk to me and jez, explain what you want, and hope there aren't 10 already in the game.

Bringing chocolate means that the Sally will lower your 'effective restriction' down by a level.

Bringing Mountain Dew means that Jez will let you play a Camazotz. Who is a mummy. With Mage Spheres.

You could do it like you did with corax... Two slots for lupus, then after that restricted?

although by that logic, you may want to make Red Talons restricted...

Aww, raties highly restricted... I dont want a "wierd shit" character as I already play a Lasombra Anti, so guess I am gonna work on my _proper_ Glasswalker concept (IE, different from Derick who was frankly just a Steel Host waiting to happen).

Straight out of the book, plus 50 xp for cliath, and then other ranks require xp donation from other players - 3 for fostern, 5 for adren, 9 for athro, and 13 for elder, with athro and elder being approval. You get xp back for playing a cub - can't remember how many off the top of my head.

And what did you want to play again? I know jez told me but I can't remember.
