  • First of all, the good news! I signed up with a temp agency yesterday - the one recommended to me by [profile] mistress_fran. Today they called me to ask if they can put my CV forward for a two week temp position as a receptionist which would be starting tomorrow. Eeeeeee! This makes me happy. Even if it doesn't come through, I feel like they are actually doing something for me, which is a vast improvement on Reed who basically do as little as is humanly possible.

  • In more good news, I had a lovely lovely night out with [profile] pierot, [profile] the_grim_squeak and Hannah Fordham last night. Tim was getting back from Paris, so we met up at Tinseltown (where else?) for food and milkshakes. And it was fab.

  • As a mild aside, whilst in Tinseltown, I got to thinking about music videos, and how they can really change my feelings about a song. I mean, I used to really quite like Bon Jovi - Always. It seemed like a decent romantic ballad. Then I saw the video (which you can find here), which is basically a deeply creepy tale of pretty unhealthy relationship and then horrible people on the periphery of it. The whole video makes me feel unclean and I've never liked the song so much since. On the other hand, Toni Braxton - Unbreak My Heart used to really irritate me as a 'please come back and let me be a doormat' kind of song, until I saw the video (available here) which has it as a song sung by Toni to her dead boyfriend, which, whilst not improving the song musically, does definitely stop it bugging me on moral grounds. Am I the only one? Are there other songs with videos which just change the meaning of the song totally?

  • In even more good news about life, I had a lovely day on Tuesday, when I went over to see [profile] mistress_fran for a day of doing crafty stuff. I made massage oil, but not perfume, as I'm having issues with the recipe I've got. It says I can use vodka as a decent alcohol base, but I find it just smells really strongly of vodka at the end. I think I need some ethanol or IMS, but I'm not sure where I can get hold of some. Any suggestions? I have a feel I can't, as you need a license to get it (you definitely do for IMS), but am unsure.

  • In slightly less good news, I am grotty and plague filled. My chest has now been rattling all week, and I ache all over. This is not very fun at all. However, I think I'm on the up, and I'm definitely dramatically less ill than poor [profile] ksirafai and [profile] pierot who have both been wiped out all week. Poor things.

  • And finally, is anyone else out there listening to Last FM. I am listening to it lots, and am annwfyn on there. If anyone would like to be Last FM friends, that would be fab. And I do apologise for my bizarre mishmash of songs. There is a lot of tat in my library. I am well aware!

Re: Bon Jovi

Aren't you glad they never made a video for "If I was your mother"?

Oh, yeah, totally. Off the top of my head, Christina Aguilera's video for "Dirty" occasionally still fools me into thinking I like the song. Yeah, there's an element of "attractive women dancing" there, but there are a lot of videos featuring that, and Dirty does a stonkingly good job of taking those raw ingredients and actually making something that's really sexy.

Shakira's "Obsession Tango" video got me to watch it enough that I realised I really liked her singing. And more recently, Lady Gaga's stuff in general, and the video for Bad Romance in particular - awesome.

Lionel Richie's Hello is about looking for some hitherto-unmet and equally wistful partner. The music video seems to be about a blind girl making freakish clay sculptures of Lionel Richie's Head.

Oh, and She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5 is about being in love with a girl who's perpetually moving between emotionally unsatisfying and damaging relationships with people who aren't you, but according to the music video it's about trying to seduce your girlfriend's mum.

I tried Last FM before and didn't get on with it so I continue to use Spotify instead.

Good news on the new agency, I have an appointment to register with one next week to try and get some part time work.
