I was pottering on the internet today and I found this picture:

My father's house is just past the church. According to [profile] wildrogue it's practically a town by Somerset standards. According to the occasional Londoners I've dragged out there, it's a back country hick town and they are surprised anyone has even discovered fire out there. There's a church, a supermarket, a lot of pubs and a lot of horses. The entire town is based on the racing industry.

I remember being woken up at 6 am when I was little by the noise of the stable lads shouting to each other as they rode out.

The photo above is another pic - I think it's years old now. That's the road I was brought up on.

No real reason for any of this. Just me putting up some pics somewhere to try and put some pictures to the place I do talk about quite a bit.

It was a nightmare when I was a teenager. Twas miles and miles from anywhere with absolutely nothing to do, and in those days it was really racing industry dominated which made it a bit rough.

We were on page 3 of the Independent once as 'the heroin capital of the south of England'. Tis rather pretty tho, and as I've gotten older I have grown to appreciate bits of it more and more.

Yes but teenagers never grow up where they would like. My home town would be similar in set up but a big larger really.

Practically? It is a town by Westcountry standards. More than two shops, a large church, a school and one pub per twenty people. It has a supermarket and everything.
(As a reference for city dwellers, a village has up to five streets, up to two shops, probably a church, a tiny primary school if you're lucky and only two pubs, three if it's very pretty so the locals don't have to mix with tourists)

yeah right, we both know you only moved there because you misread it as 'the heroine capital of the south of England'.

I thought Lambourne was rather nice when I visited.

On a completely unrelated note, have you received any mysterious packages in the post yet?

We have a primary school but no secondary school. At St Barts I counted as one of the back woods hicks that had to be shipped in via taxi because there wasn't a good enough bus service to get us there reliably.

No, didn't get a text. :(

I thought was appropriate, though. And it has your name on it and everything, just in case you forget who you are. ;)
