Gods, I'm feeling groggy this morning. Getting up before 7 am to give [profile] pierot a lift to the train station when I failed to get to sleep until 2 am was bad. Coming back and going back to bed until 11 am was probably worse. I deal badly with interupted sleep - I really should stay up once I'm awake. I've got that weird and sweaty feeling I get from lying in bed in the sun, and the mild headache I normally get from naps. I'm struggling with a massive amount of lethargy which I'm fighting. I need to phone temp agencies and nag for work! I really really do!

I'm also still pondering names for kittens today.

The front runners from yesterday remain Jareth and Oberon, but this morning it occured to me to go and look at Cornish names. They are Cornish Rex cats, after all.

Currently Brethoc, Catgutic, Frioc, Iliud, Maeloc, Medrod and Terithien are all traditional male Cornish names that I rather like. Of course, they have the downside of being rather obscure. I only know the meaning of one - Medrod - which is thought to be the root name from which Mordred sprang. They all come from 10th century manumissions, and so were in use uniquely in Cornwall in the 10th century, but no more than that is known.

I may be fixating a little. I really need to keep the theoretical nature of these cats a little more firmly in my mind.

Nonsense! 'Cos you're going to get Cornish Rexes and Jez won't be allergic to them and it will all be happy and good, and then I'll use the fact it worked for you and Jez to persuade Phil he wants to get some too. ;)

I am become a beacon of hope for girls with cat allergic boyfriends, aren't I?

I really do hope it does work out. I've missed having cats, and now I've seen the kittens I think it's getting worse!

Yeah, I really miss having cats too. I never stopped missing Tala, and I loved having Tau stay for a while too, in spite of what happened.

I always meant to ask you, btw, and kept forgetting, if you could maybe send me a photo of Tau?

Catgutic

Sally... take a good, long look at this name....

So do you go with the Cornish part of the name (Brethoc, etc), or the Rex - king part of the name (Oberon, etc)?

Or go with Cornish Kings... I can only think ofg King Mark at the moment.

Though Medrod would be cool for the evil twin.

I really need to keep the theoretical nature of these cats a little more firmly in my mind.

You should see Jo getting fixated on the property dshe likes in Epsom, I'm getting a bit worried that if we don't get it she's gonna go on a killing spree. Luckily we now have a viewing tomorrow.

Thanks. He does look gorgeous in it, and was indeed a fab cat. If somewhat demanding. ;)

I'll never forget him sitting on my lap in the living room, helping himself to some water out of my glass, then standing at the door until I got the hint and let him out, at which point he went and stood at the kitchen door until I opened that, and then stood looking pointedly at the fridge and then at me until I cracked and gave him some smoked salmon. Cheeky little monster. :)

*laughs*

I remember his complete conviction that the sitting room was his. Totally and utterly. My sister came up to stay with me and woke me in the morning complaining that Tau had spent the entire night prodding and poking her periodically to find out exactly who she was, and what she was doing on his sofa.

I also remember him killing my laptop - he became aware that there was this thing that would be in my lap and I would apparently stroke. So he decided to place himself on the keyboard, so I'd stroke him instead. He got so much fur in it that way that the entire thing froze up and ceased to work.

Very spoilt cat!

It looks a bit like cat gut, doesn't it?

I kinda thought that might be cool.

I also remember crashing at yours once, and he kept headbutting me when I tried to go to sleep. So long as I kept stroking him it was fine, but if he wasn't getting attention, I wasn't getting any kip.

Cats are never theoretical.

They leap straight from the possible to the theoretical.

As far as broken sleep goes, I feel your pain. Last night I finally got to sleep at 3am (stupid me had a 'short nap' at around 6ish, thus ensuring I'd never be able to sleep), was woken by my alarm at 4.30 for my antibiotics (technically they say you can take a double dose before bed and avoid waking up in the middle of the night. Given that they also say the maximum dose is half what I'm taking, I'm playing safe), then woke up at 6am and couldn't get back to sleep.

Gah. Whose stupid idea was it that humans need sleep?

Believe me, I have something very similar going round my head...

"I do not need a cat, if I have a cat my mother can't visit, hang on, if I have a cat my mother can't visit, I can't have a cat, the cat doesn't get on with other cats it won't get on with Tad, but Tad is scared of cats, I can't get a cat, I don't have a place for a cat to live"

Curses to all cats and their [in my case] strokey black fur and pretty eyes.

The sun is very, very bad. although I get weird and sweaty feelings from other things, too.

You know, even if you get them, I think that you should continue to refer to them as "Theoretical Cats." If they're only theoretical, then they're less likely to trigger allergies.

and I have to ask... Which cornish name(s) mean 'raven'?

I wish I'd met Tau. He looks quite smug in a random picture I have. He looks like he'd be playing a particularly competent bad guy in a movie.

When I moved away from Edinburgh I went wandering around South America for four months, and couldn't take them with me. Mr Barry Martin offered them a home in his front room - he used to keep terrapins when he was younger - and it seemed like the right thing to do to pass them on to a good home.

I think he's still got them - last time I heard they were doing quite well.
