Westminster Archives Centre has embarked on an exciting project to publish a rare Victorian journal on-line in 2010. The diary of Nathaniel Brycesona young Victorian living in South Westminster, was written in 1846 and is being serialised in daily on-line postings.

Step back in time to Victorian Pimlico

The diary of Nathaniel Bryceson, a young wharf clerk in Pimlico, is a rare insight into the lives and loves of a 19 year-old in the early Victorian era. A colourful character, Bryceson takes us through the year 1846, with details of his working life and of his relationship with Ann Fox, his mistress and closest companion.

Bryceson’s diary breathes life into an era that is too often portrayed as socially regimented. From financial affairs to affairs of the heart, the diary is a truly personal take on the life of a young Victorian in 1846.

Having existed only in manuscript up until now, the diary will be serialised on-line throughout 2010 by City of Westminster Archives. Read it at www.westminster.gov.uk/archives/victorian-clerk from 1 January 2010.
