Random good memories...
Jun. 2nd, 2005 10:43 amToday I am in an odd place.
I'm tired. Yesterday involved me sitting in my room staring at my computer editing essays for four hours solidly, until my shoulders ached and my eyes were getting fuzzy. I spent the evening driving around the country manically, getting back to London, and then sleeping until it was time to get up and drive back to Oxford.
My shoulders still hurt, my brain is fuzzed, but my essays are tidied, I'm due to hand them in tomorrow and I had a wonderful evening last night. I'm feeling mellow, and I also ran into some odd good memories on a livejournal where I wasn't expecting to see them.
And so I am nostalgic. I'm sitting here remembering good things that I think I'm often prone to forgetting.
I'm remembering watching a group of South American men carefully laying a car battery in the sun, in the hope that would power it up. I'm remembering the amazing dazzling white of the salt flats in Bolivia. I'm remembering watching the sun come up over Macchu Picchu, and the way it warmed up the backpackers watching it, releasing the stench of four days solid exercise with no washing.
I'm remembering other things I think I ought to remember. I'm remembering sitting on a train going up to Dundee and getting all excited about seeing seals lying on the rocks. I'm remembering coming into Edinburgh on the train for the first time, looking up at the castle and the great grey rocks and just knowing I wanted to go to university there. I'm remembering sitting in a cafe in Tenby and eating wonderful apple crumble while the rain beat against the windows outside, leaving me feeling very snug and contented. I'm remembering the Northern Regional where James crashed the car driving up, but I'm remembering how beautiful the youth hostel looked in the snow, and I'm remembering jumping around the hall squeaking with excitement the night we killed Danton.
I've had a good life, really. Even the bits of my life which I associate with painful memories had good parts, important parts, the parts I'm really glad I had.
And so I shall sit and wallow in nostalgia quietly for a while this morning.
In other news,
castorlion's birthday was great, the fusia feather boa was received just as I had hoped it would be, and apparently I won
ksirafai a bet by only requiring one phone call to guide me there.
Tonight Sin City comes out. Currently myself, jez, Ginnie and hopefully Scott and Elle are going to see it at 7 pm in Reading. I'm aiming on getting tickets this afternoon to make sure we can get seats. Is there anyone else interested/coming? I'm looking at
isalani in particular. I think he's meant to be coming, but I couldn't remember for sure.
Anyone else?

Date: 2005-06-02 10:31 am (UTC)I'd be possibly tempted by Sin City, if you'll have me. It's conveniently on my way from work, and means I don't have to spend so much time in Scut House, which our landlord didn't have cleaned in any way before we moved in.
What time is it supposed to finish?
