Happy thoughts...
Oct. 12th, 2011 02:05 amA while ago I was trying to explain the concept of 'happy places' to someone. Basically, there are, in the world, a variety of places which I associate very strongly with being happy, with good things happening, with me liking the world I live in. And just being able to think about those places, to remember them, to get a mental image in my mind always makes me feel better.
And so tonight, when the world is being a weird place, and I am in a lot of pain and really am not content with the world, I have decided that I want to find some of those places and spend a bit of time inside those memories. It'll make me feel better, and it'll turn into something that no one can take away from me.
( The carousel on Brighton Pier, nearby where my grandmother lived )
( Horcon, in Chile, where Krys and I stayed in a cabana and lived on goat's cheese, french bread and red wine )
( Pike's Place Market in Seattle. I think Melsner took me here first on one of our Grim Raven Death Marches of Fun )
( The Monkey Temple in Kathmandu. I remember coming here on a lovely sunny day when I was about 18 and sort of wallowing in the fact that this was me! I was here! )
( White Horse Hill, near my dad's house. I love this place absolutely and keep thinking about getting it as a tattoo of some kind )
So those are five random places that make me happy. It isn't an exhaustive list - I haven't got pictures of the convent in Bolivia I fell in love with, or Streatham Ice Rink where I am almost always happy - and there are a load of other places too. But those are five places I adore and feel like sharing with the world tonight.
How about you?
