This is a quick and maybe slightly self important PSA for all regular readers of my LJ.
A long time ago, back in the mists of time when twotempestuous young fillies strong and manly men called
hardwired and
_grimtales_ were trying to rend each other asunder with their teeth not getting along so well* I developed a policy for flame wars on my LJ.
It was really simple. I decided it was not my job to act as a mod, or as a policeman. I do not moderate comments. You can post whatever you want. A lot of the time I won’t get involved in fights when they do kick off. Most of the time I think that only makes things worse. What I tend to do if an argument seems to have become upsetting is set the entry to private, and e mail the parties involved explaining why.
Then that’s done. I try and not dwell on it, and I try and remember that everyone who posts on my LJ is, in theory, either a friend or at least a cordial acquaintance with generally positive intentions.
What this means is that if an LJ of mine on a contentious subject does vanish, that is probably what has happened. If I’ve not e mailed you, it means you weren’t one of the people who was getting into the upsetting bits. But feel free to e mail me and ask about it anyway.
As an additional note, right now I have really really limited internet access away from my phone. I can’t do a load of stuff with LJ on my phone; I can’t post to custom friends groups, I can’t edit custom friends groups, it’s tricksy to reply to LJ comments and my phone is a bit erratic as to whether I can edit LJ posts at all. This means that sometimes I won’t notice a discussion turning into a flame war, I won’t be able to update a custom friends group and I can generally be a bit slow. Sorry! Should all get sorted when my lovely netbook is returned from Dell in the near future.
This is all.
Thank you for listening!
*Note – all humour here is designed to try and make light of a pretty miserable time for all concerned. It is not, in any way, intended to disregard or minimize anyone’s bad experiences at the time or since.
