Lambourn

I've spent today in Lambourn. It's odd - when I was younger I couldn't stand this place. I hated that it was miles from anywhere, with a couple of buses per day. I really couldn't wait to get out.

And now...well...I had a really lovely time back here.

It started with a thunderstorm, so intense that at first I wasn't sure what the lightning was. It was just this amazing flash just in front of my car that filled up my vision. I got out of the car at my Dad's house and felt this amazing rain land on me - thick warm raindrops, like a tropical storm. I stood there for a while, just feeling glad to be there. The garden smelt amazing after the rain. The scent from all the roses just seemed to fill the air. I'm a little alarmed at the rose bush in the front garden, admittedly. I think it may start walking and devouring innocent passers by any time soon.

I pottered around the house, which always feels comfortable, safe. I wandered up to the shop (thinking it would take a minute) and ran into four people that I've known since I was six years old who all wanted to stop and gossip. There aren't many places left in the world which are like that, where everyone does know your name.

I found some of my old books from when I was a child and read them.

It's amazingly therapeutic coming home sometimes. Y'know...just because.
