First of all!

[Poll #631481]

And secondly...

We have internet at the new house! Admittedly, we only have dialup, as it appears BT lied to us when they said "we'll have your broadband up and running by Wednesday, 7th December" but we do have internet access. [livejournal.com profile] pierot and I also have a computer, which is particularly exciting. It's been delivered by Dell, apparently out of the goodness of their hearts as I haven't actually been charged anything by them, which is worrying me a bit. I'm not entirely sure what to do. Should I leave it? Should I call them up and say "excuse me. You've delivered my computer, but haven't debited my card"? This isn't entirely a matter of honesty versus economic sense either. I'm somewhat scared that if I don't say anything, all that will mean is that in a couple of months some accountant will notice that they are £1000 down, and will say "oh, just debit the money. We have her credit card details, and she did place an order, this giving us access to her account" and they will try and take the money out of my account at a time when I don't have £1000 sitting there, waiting to be taken. I'd rather not discover that Dell have claimed cash by the medium of 'irate landlord who's rent cheque just bounced'.

So, tis a bit of a conundrum.

In other news, life potters onward. The kittens are doing well, and seem really settled here. They have the run of most of the house these days (except [livejournal.com profile] bringeroflight's room, and have grown huge amounts. I've also discovered now that I look at cats which aren't my lovely leggy creatures and find them stumpy and podgy - just because I'm used to the slightly odd look of the Cornish Rex. I wish I had some pictures to back up this point, but my digital camera seems to not be working, which I am rather pouting about. We (myself, [profile] pierot, [profile] rweishaar and [profile] ksirafai) went to see 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' on Friday which was truly magical and has had me bouncing ever since. It was like seeing my childhood daydreams on screen.

University work is actually progressing. I've got most of a pad of A4 filled with notes, and I have the beginnings of an idea for what I want to say. Early Christian burial isn't a big hole of 'I know nothing'. It's much more of a world of stories told by old books, and bits of bone to me now. Stories such as the one of Radbod, a Frisian king, who was about to be baptised when he asked the officiating priest if he would be able to see his ancestors in heaven. "Oh no", replied the priest. "Your pagan ancestors are all in hell"

"Well then!" replied Radbod, "I do not wish to be baptised. I would rather sit with my ancestors in hell, than some small group in heaven."

And that was it for Christianity in that region for the rest of Radbod's life.

This amuses me.

Finally, in other news, I have entirely been off LJ for a week and a half now. If anyone has anything that I really should know, drop a comment below. I'm sure there isn't anything that major, but just in case.

And now...oh...what to do with a shiney new computer?
