Heat

For the last three nights in a row now, I've woken up at 4 am on the dot, so uncomfortably hot that I feel like I can't stay in bed, feeling like I'm being burned by my own sheets, all hot and sweaty from the presence of my own body.

For the last three days in a row, walking around during the day has left me feeling nauseous and crappy due to the heat.

I'm a wuss, I don't like this heat, and it's making me feeling really rough and pretty damn grouchy. Many apologies to anyone I'm grumpy at. I'm a vile creature, who should know better, but I just feel horrible at the moment.

In other news:

  • Contracts have now been exchanged on the house and [profile] pierot and I will be house owners as of August 31st. This is GOOD.

  • Camberwell College of Art have lost my application. They've got my references, and think they may have seen my application once, and it may be with the head of department. But they're not sure. This is BAD.

  • I appear to have lost half a stone over the last three and a half weeks courtesy of Weight Watchers. This is GOOD.

  • I have been swimming every day for the past two weeks. I am unsure whether this is GOOD or BAD. On one hand, I'm fairly sure the exercise is good for me and it's great in this heat, but on the other hand I'm beginning to get a bit fed up of my hair always smelling of chlorine and feeling slowly more brittle. I am CONFUSED.

Life is generally, I think, OK. But dear god the heat. Please let it end...

Just remember to keep up your fluid intake.

The hot is due to stay :( Though today you can allegedly expect storms at some point, which may give brief relief.

Me, I recommend a long (ie, stay in it while reading a short book!) cool bath before bed. It brings your body temperature down until you actually feel slightly chilly and welcome the heat.

And then sleep with a fan and without a duvet :)

Something I found helpful when work suddenly required me to spend a lot of time in hot places, often dressed inappropriately for the weather: drink far, far too much. Like, absolutely ridiculous amounts. When I was doing San Jose and Dallas I was probably going through a litre of water every two hours, if not more. It really helped.

Swimming is good. The best way to get rid of the chorine smell is to immediately wash your hair after you get out of the pool, and conditioning it should get rid of the brittleness as well.

My doctor said that I ought to do it everyday, but I'm bad and I don't... it's supposed to be good for your body and mind. Something with being suspended. Argh, now I sort of want to swim.

Congrats on finalising the house. ;)

We finalised too... although we're moving in on Friday... :o) (because I don't really want to be moving into a house whilst starting my first term at AT).

As for other things drink water, you're supposed to drink 2 litres of water on a normal day, and more on an incredibly hot one... and that is unadulterated water not fruit juice or tea etc.

As for the swimming, you have a hell of a lot more staying power than I do... I really should get into swimming again, especially as I'm currently (until friday) living opposite a swimming pool. It's good for your body and bad for your hair, but just think how good it is for your body.
