Argh!

OK.

So, on Tuesday night I discovered my car window had been smashed, probably by thugs trying to steal from my car, but being stymied by the complete lack of valuables in there.

I spent yesterday getting that sorted.

Now, this morning, my car won't start.

I'm currently sitting around waiting for a nice man to come and find out what is wrong with it. It may just be the battery, but jump leads are currently not working on it, which indicates there is more to it than that.

Is there some kind of conspiracy that is keeping me from getting into college?

Out of interest, had you tried starting it since they broke in? If you have an alarm system they may have tried getting around it by fiddling with your fuse box, or simply messed with the electronics in an attempt to hotwire it (which of course usually fails due to the transponder systems.

Another option for it not starting - most cars have a safety feature (the proper name for which currently eludes me - something cut-off switch, probably) that will cut the power to the engine in the case of a crash. You'll need to check the manual for your car to see how to reset it, but it's just about possible that they thumped your car hard enough to set that off when they smashed the window. Tbh, the option above sounds unfortunately more likely, but this is possible and should at least be quick to confirm/deny.

A nice man from the RAC came out and said that the problem was to do with the window being broken and then repaired - he said it had messed with the onboard computer (or something), fiddled for a bit, and got it going.

I don't quite understand what he said, but I'm not very good with cars.

At least tis now sorted, it didn't cost me anything, and it doesn't affect my no claims bonus. And that is good.
