So.

It appears my laptop has died.

Or rather, the screen has gone again. I haven't dropped it, no one has trodden on it, and it was totally fine last night. This morning there is only a black screen. Everything else is working, I think. I can hear it all buzzing along, and the occasional noise of programmes starting up when I try and boot it up, but there is no screen.

I'm just out of my warranty, so no hope of getting it fixed for free.

I was considering getting a new laptop, and am quite close to just trying to transfer the contents of my hard drive to a datastick, and then looking for something new.

Why do laptops always die so fast?

In other news, I had a lovely day yesterday. I went to see Leah, an old friend from school, and her adorable daughter. Charlotte Darbyshire is a complete sweetheart, with the biggest blue eyes I've ever seen. It was fab just to hang out with Leah for a bit.

I'm now home, feeling very very poor, and wishing I had the cash to go out and do something exciting to do. Thankfully, my father tells me that I should be getting a little bit of inheritance money through in the next week, which won't make me rich, but will pay off my credit card, and leave me a little bit of money to buy something shiny with. Which will probably be a laptop, but I'll see if I can weasel some money aside for something frivolous as well.

In the interim, I shall head out into the day and go hunting for books, which may actually be useful for me. I shall do college work today. I shall. I shall.

And today will turn out alright in the end...

Kittens!

Got a pic today of the theoretical kittens.

Kitten pic )

Their eyes are open and they are starting to move around.

In other news, went out last night with my friend Leah and her husband - we had dinner at Tiger Lil's in Clapham and it was lovely, although I did hear a lot about how happy she and Robin were, how wonderful marriage is, and how I really should try it. I got home and told jez that Leah had now explained that we had to get married or would forever have a less evolved relationship. He said we were getting kittens instead.

Oh, and I received a parcel yesterday. Thank you, [profile] melsner. You are good and wonderful. I now have more goth tat, some of which I may distribute like an overenthused gothic Santa Claus.

Which gives me a mental image of me with a stick on black beard (dyed, of course) and a lot of eyeliner. Possibly a Special Santa Corset, which will carefully redistribute the fat.

*ponders*

I should think less, I fear.

...and I still feel odd.

I think it's that I've been running flat out for months now. Since March I've been in hospital, then ill and recovering, and since then I've just been working and worrying, and stressing and hoping to get through the rest of this term without screwing up my masters.

And now it's over I feel...I don't know what I feel.

I'm still feeling tired. Not physically tired (although lack of sleep over the last week is making me feel physically tired as well) but massively emotionally tired. I'm not snarky, or ratty anymore (which I have been for about the last eight weeks!) but instead I just feel crappy and tearful.

I think it's just exhaustion. Physical and mental and emotional exhaustion. I'm going to go and see my best friend, Gemma, tomorrow, which I'm massively looking forward to. I've known Gem since I was six years old. I love her to bits and I think she's someone I need to see right now.

Then...Australia.

I was woken up at 4 am this morning by a text message from my friend, Leah. She worked for the Lib Dem MP for Newbury, David Rendal. He just lost to the conservatives so she's out of a job.

It's a real shame. I liked David Rendal. He was a decent MP. He was local, his kids all went to the same school as me, his wife is a local GP and he really knew the area. He really cared about the area.

Damn Tories.

The rest of the election...I suppose tis a tad predictable. But still a shame.
