Read a really interesting FB post by Ruth yesterday about thin privilege in LRP and it vaguely got me thinking.

All very dull unless you're interested in people, Live Action Role Play, and how people respond to size )

So, I'm off work today, due to a bad case of Extreme Deadness.

By this, I mean I came down with the most horrific migraine last night. I've never felt that rough. I couldn't sleep, because the bed felt like it was rocking, my head was pounding and I felt nauseous. In the end, I took a load of [profile] pierot's prescription migraine killer meds (I know! I know! I shouldn't!) and crawled off to bed at 1 am when my hands and feet went numb.

As a result, I'm now spending today curled up on the sofa.

Whilst I'm here, I'm pondering various things. One of them is the amount of appreciation that most storytellers get, or don't get. Most STs, larp STs in particular, put a stupid amount of work, creativity, thought and time into running these games, which we all do love or we wouldn't spend so much time playing them. Yet 90% of the time, the players who are happy with a game just bimble along, sometimes writing bad fic, and chatting amongst themselves, and the only people who take the time and effort to e mail an ST are the ones who have issues and problems or want to tell the ST why they have got it WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Now, this doesn't seem very fair to me. Therefore, after some conversation with [profile] mistress_fran, we have decided that this Thursday shall be

What we would like is for everyone to find the time, on Thursday, to say something nice to an ST. Send them an e mail telling them that you liked their game. Post up an entry in your LJ about the lovely things that STs do. Bake them a cake, or send them some cookies. Say something nice to an ST.

I shall certainly try and do so.

And in advance, I'd just like to say 'thank you' to every single LARP ST I have played under over the last thirteen years. You've all enriched my life an immeasurable amount and I love the amazing worlds, stories and experiences you've all shared with me.

Thank you.

So, on Sunday I run the Apocalypse. And right now I'm at home, statting even more NPCs.

I've got a lot already, but not enough and my brain is turning sludge, when I had an idea.

Is there anyone out there with any MET char sheets on their computer?

By this I mean vampires (they serve the wyrm after all), werewolves (I can twink them into BSDs), fera (ditto), fomori, banes, spirits, nephandi, mages (I'll throw 'em through the cauls). Basically, any MET character sheet, of any power level would help me enormously. I won't be using the characters. Just the sheets. If that makes sense.*

So, any OldWoD MET sheets would be lovely. My e mail addy is surinen@gmail.com and I'll even take any extra instructions, like "please use this sheet to kill [profile] flamma_lupus.

Right now, the Wyrm needs you!

*Basically, if you send me a sheet for Ignatius, your beloved old character of many years, who happens to be a 6th gen Brujah, this does not mean that in any world, Ignatius is fighting the Apocalypse. It just means a 6th gen Brujah with a similar sheet to Ignatius frenzied and ran into the Final Battle.

Some of you may remember this destiny spread that I put together for [livejournal.com profile] pierot's prospective 7th Sea game, which I needed to write a background around.

Well, the background lies beneath )

I still have 2 pts of nemesis outstanding, because [livejournal.com profile] ksirafai suggested that with all the nemesises/nemesi/nemesuses* floating around the party we should consider pooling our points and putting them all into One Great Arch-Nemesis who wishes to Destroy All All, possibly forcing us to Band Together Against The Odds, which seemed mostly quite appropriate.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] span1el - you remember you were talking about preferring the destiny spread when based in Vodacce or involving a Fate Witch in some way? One of the party has All The Nemesis in the world, not to mention a lot of bad luck, so has written himself an evil runaway Fate Witch stepmother in his background, who may well be trying to Destroy Us All as we speak. So, it seems that we actually do have a Fate Witch involved in the whole process in this game.

*What is the plural of 'nemesis'?

7th Sea

I do love the 7th Sea destiny spread that you do during character creation. There is something utterly glorious about the unexpected backgrounds, twists and turns that appear when pulling cards at random out of a deck.

Last night I started character gen with an earnest little Eisen combat machine.

I ended with a half Avalonian, half Ussuran girl, abandoned as a baby in Eisen and raised by foster parents, desperate to fit in, unable to get the whole 'Eisen' thing just right, cursed by the Fae and disliked by everyone.

(I don't know why everyone hates her! But every single 'enemy', 'rival' and 'vendetta' flaw came up during that destiny spread)

And it's a glorious and shiny new concept. Just not one I would have thought of for myself.

My destiny spread, for the record. )

Can anyone think of:

a) a film which features heroic Arabs, other than the 13th Warrior, or anything with Omar Sharif. If you can think of a sci-fi film which does this I'll love you forever, but I accept that 'Arabs in Space' is a niche market.

b) a film which features an Asian male as the romantic lead. If anyone can name me a film in which Jet Li gets laid, I'll be very happy too, but that's purely for personal reasons.

I don't know if this will make any sense, but this has all been forming in my brain for a little while, and I'm trying to make it coherant without being offensive.

The requested ramble )
